Below is the 11 that I am expecting for the first few games:

Rohit

KL

Kohli

SKY

Pant

SDP (Hardik)

Jadeja/Axar - to bowl a few overs too (or Kishan @ #4)

R Chahar

Ashwin/Varun C

2 from the 3 pacers in rotation: Bumrah, Shami & Bhuvi

Positives: Kishan, SKY, R Chahar , Varun and Ashwin are all good picks. Dhawan, Pandey and Chahal not being there is very good

Negatives: Looks to be a skewed squad. No reserve specialist batsman or pacers in the 15, too many spinners, too many one dimensional players (Rohit, Kohli, SKY, . Thakur not being there is a travesty. He was regular in the team, was doing great but doesn't find a place. Shami and Axar Patel have hardly played T20Is in last 3-4 years, they been picked! Natarajan is fit for IPL but has been ignored, wonder why.

Likely 11: Rohit, Clown, KL, SKY, Pant, Pandya, Jaddu, Ashwin/Varun, R Chahar, Bhuvi, Bumrah

Don't see Kishan and Axar getting games.

Lot of faith being put in Pant and Pandya (and Jaddu). Their form with the bat will decide how far we can go

I differ on this though i hated last 3 years of Dhoni as a player. He was really good strategist when pitches are slow and spin plays a part in short format.

I cannot think of any better indian mentor as of now .

Thats all ok but at the end its captain on field who has to be quick on field in decision. Their is not much a coach or mentor can do after a point.

New Zealand - waiting for you with Ashwin, Jadeja and Axar on a spinning UAE pitch.

ICC tournament monkey off our back finally I hope!

We had Ashwin, Jadeja and Raina in 2016. Restricted then to 126 but got rolled over by McCullum, Sodhi and Santner. :((

Kishan was a disaster in the IPL. I dont mind him but think SHAW is better.  kishan is likely ahead as he may be keeper batsman if  Pant is  out for some reason.

Kishan was a star in UAE IPL last year.

First time i have felt they nailed the LOI team selection.Ashwin may not play a game but he will be a good backup in case of injury.lets hope Bhuvi and Bumrah remain injury free/

these are not high scoring grounds or pitches.these players can hit spinners well and get to a par score and then we can demolish any side with our spinners. If we dont win the WC i will be royally pissed.

Agreed.. but Pandya has been utter dross against pace and spin alike. Can't rely on Jadeja against international bowlers on big grounds.

Mostly in Kohli captaincy we have seen batting collapses in ko matches or crucial matches. May be dhoni responsibility is maintain good environment in dressing room

You can assess the game and provide feedback at the end of each over.  Most of changes would be around Bowling changes and field placings based on batsmen strategy.  A non-player from outside the ground can read the game and pick up things  much better than  captain as he would be thinking about many things all at once .  Give any gaalis to MSD  but  you cannot doubt his tactical nous esp in slow pitches . Not for nothing he is Dhoniconda .

By having him as mentor no way harms us irrespective of  how far team progresses in WC.

If i have my way , i would have him in that role for 22 WC and WC23.
