What impact will MS Dhoni have in Indian T20 WC team?

If we win Dhoni will get the credit, if we lose Virat will be bashed. Perfect scenario. I feel this is internship for Dhoni as well. He might be our next coach considering Ravi Shastri's term is ending.

IPl is fine as he is under contract but why waste time on a pointless mentor role when his services are needed on the border with the whole Taliban issue, China problem etc or even internal security with potential covid waves

I agree. Transition planning on for Dhoni to become coach. Not sure if Dravid is really interested in the coaching job. Don’t think Dravid wants to travel all year or deal with players’ egos and media non-stop.

There was no need for such decisions had Rohit been the captain and Kohli's wings were cut .

Rohit is the better captain and that would have given us a better shot at winning the whole thing .

In T20s that luck started and ended with the inaugural T20 WC when teams were yet to be fully familiar with the format. Since then 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016 played in all conditions including last 3 in Asia, nothing helped.

 

In ODIs the 'luck' ended in 2013. In 2015, 2017, 2019 no such 'luck'.

 

The appointment is a farce aimed only at pandering to captain's ego. If at all we need specialist support in an area, it's for our spinners. Or a sports psychologist who could help the chokers in the team be better prepared mentally.

If kohli asked for him, he is the biggest fool possible. The only possible cup glory he could have will be completely overshadowwd and someone else credited. 

 

Till now he had absolute power but this will undermine his power and control

if this has been enforced on Kohli and he perceives it as an attempt to rein him in that might not end well. Accountability is another issue if things go pear shaped.
