Coz we have beaten them in crunch WC matches far too often. It was almost like an unhealthy habit for them. Losing to India in WCs.

Now they've won in this WC-lite event, they will savour it.

If you keep aside the crazy and misplaced religious symbolism coming from Pakistani people on TV/Twitter, their excitement is no different than ours when we won that test Series in Australia.

Their need to repeatedly tie this T20 game with religion is what makes this unpleasant for us. All of us.

Also this team of theirs is good. First time I've seen them field well. Most of their teams in the last decade were weak, filled with really poor players like the Akmals and Rana Naveed and what not.

So I guess Pakistanis have a reason to be sanguine.

OP, you must understand, these poor guys are used to seeing their team get trashed left right and centre by their arch rivals most times in the one sport they are good at, obviously it’s a pretty big deal to them when their team finally manages to win one or two games here and there against us . So big infact that it is enough to send the entire nation into a frenzied meltdown state

I wrote this is another thread. Unlike me who grew up in an era where Pakistan was a better side than us, generation under 25 has always seen an Indian team which hasnt lost much to pakistan. Current generations early memories of cricket in general would be sehwag tonking everyone in pakistan. Its the same for me loss to BD pinches more than loss to Pak.

Off Topic but Kohli as captain's record is very poor in Ind vs Pak encounter. On the 13-4 I listed above, 3 out of those 4 loses are under Kohli :giggle:

Kohli has captained us against Pakistan 5 times and lost 3 :hail:

Asia Cup 2014 - Lost

CT Group Game - Win

CT Finals - Lost

WC 2019 - Win

WT20 2021 - Lost

The reactions after 24th Oct has made me thinking why it gets so hyped up only when Pakistan wins?

People are throwing religious slurs, non stop abuse of our players, hysteria in media, politicians involved - the reaction everywhere is way OTT. All of these bcoz we lost 1 T20 game against Pakistan.

I mean India has been beating Pakistan for fun in almost every counter in the past decade or so but we never see such reactions.

  • No such reaction after Asia Cup 2016 win in Dhaka or the WT20 win in Kolkata (which was btw played just after the Uri attack).
  • Hardly any reactions after those brutal spankings in Asia Cup 2018. Infact we were more worried about our middle order going into world cup then.
  • Don't think anyone cared the next day after 16th June 2019 when we beat them (again) in world cup in Manchester.

But why Asia Cup 2014 is still being talked by Pak fans? They keep on bringing those 2 sixes by Afridi but I have hardly seen any Indian fan mentioning the six by Bhajji off Amir in 2010 Asia Cup.

I totally understand the reactions after CT win as it was the finals but not sure of the reactions after beating India in a group match of a T20 tournament. I don't think any Indian fans even remember the 2015 WC group game or 2017 CT group game win, both were 1st match of the tournament like this T20 world cup.

If we look all matches from 2010 onwards:

2010 Asia Cup - Ind won

2011 WC - Ind won

2012 Asia Cup - Ind won

2012 T20 WC - Ind won

Aane Do - Pak won

2013 CT - Ind won

2014 Asia Cup - Pak won

2014 T20 WC - Ind won

2015 WC - Ind won

2016 Asia Cup - Ind won

2016 T20 WC - Ind won

2017 CT Group game - Ind won

2017 CT Finals - Pak won

2018 Asia Cup game 1 - Ind won

2018 Asia Cup game 2 - Ind won

2019 WC - Ind won

2021 T20 WC - Pak won

So its 13-4 in India's favour :dontknow:

But I only see Asia Cup 2014, Aane Do, CT finals and Wt20 2021 gets hyped up and no one even cares about the other matches (except perhaps the Mohali semi finals)

So the question is - why Pakistani wins over India generate so much reaction but Indian wins move under the radar?

Confused

Probably a decade back and more prominently in the last 7 years  -  India and Pak are de-hyphenated.

This is largely due to the comprehensive national strength of India ( cricket is an extremely tiny part of it ) rising exponentially compared to Pak which just went down the barrel.

With such a wide gulf reflecting in also the money and resources in Indian cricket and the huge inferiority complex that exists across the LoC, we were and are expected to trounce them always. ALWAYS.

These expectations are only going to become less and less tolerant unless we play them regularly and the aam junta sees win or loss as "part of the game".

Given the fact that we are NOT going to play them outside ICC events - the reactions are going to remain like this only, should we lose a game at an ICC event.

We are now a team that has beaten Aus in Aus back to back - totally unimaginable given Aus's historic stature in world cricket. With such achievements the public is not going to tolerate any loss to Pak.

Though I am 90s Kid, I only started watching cricket properly since 2011 world cup . So from my time of watching cricket , India always topples Pakistan. But I am aware Pakistan were a better team in 80s and 90s.

It will be interesting to see what this decade (2021-2030) holds in this rivalry.

Get over it man.
You lost,, all the hype is actually created by the indian media who plays up the worldcup record . So this was always bound to happen when india lost.
The effect is amplified since this was a proper thrashing.

Nothing to see here , most of the reaction is retaliation to poor comments from the likes of Sehwag and Harbhajjan , nothing more.
Time to get over it.

But sister there is a difference between winning test series in Australia compared to winning one T20 match no?

Australia was unbeaten in Gabba for 4 decades. India with half of its side injured went onto beat them and won the series. Not once but 2 back to back series wins in Australia. So the reactions after that win was kind of warranted IMO.

We are over it, in a few days time India will play NZ, what's up with these bigoted religious comments from some of your "national' heroes. So much obsession with hinduism.

India are a more fancied team...  That's why beating India is a big deal for them.  Plus for them the WC jinx got broken.

As a nation Pakistanis are obsessed with India.  Any success is wildly celebrated.  Taliban'a victory in Afghanistan is also an example as they were Happy we lost billions of dollars there..

As far as cricket goes..  India's test series win in Australia got insane hype as well & rightly so.

Pakistan has won plenty of series vs India.

This was bound to happen because of the hype the media creates around a world cup encounter and all those silly taakra programmes.

The comments from Waqar and the backlash towards Shami was in terrible taste , other than that it's just been harmless banter .

Clearly not , with all these threads.

Those comments were terrible from Waqar for which he apologized , still were unforgivable., as was the whole Shami episode and the firecracker nonsense.

There are too many idiots on either side milking the event.
