Has TOSS been so important in any of the previous ICC Tournaments

This T20 in Dubai, script has been simple.. win the TOSS, bowl badly & still win the match..  Starc got slaughtered, but later the same Sodhi, Southee, Santner who were unplayable against India, getting carted around... Atleast ive not seen any previous ICC tournament where TOSS has been so important....

 

It's a shame really, takes away the sheen of the tournament, when luck plays such an important role..

Now dew is setting in early so even team batting first are setting good totals even after slow starts. NZ, Pak, England all did that

We are having 2023, 2031 & atleast 2 t20 worldcup. We were host in 2011, 2016, 2021 as well. England is more than us as well (2013,17,19,21) Why not host it in South africa, West indies/USA?

Last I can think of is Champions trophy in Pakistan, which SA won. This was in 1997 if I am not mistaken.

That was in Bangladesh. Pakistan has not hosted an ICC event since 96 I think

We are economic powerhouse for cricket  definately we will host most tournaments.

In general T20 favors chasing team.  In these conditions this advantage got magnified.  

 

I have been in favor of replacing the toss for all cricket formats with an auction - captains to bid in terms of spotting a 'lead' of runs.  How many runs is it worth to a team to bowl first in these conditions? Let the 2 captains bid in 5 run increments.  Maybe one team feels its worth 20 runs, while the other is ready to concede a 25 run advantage in order to get the conditions in their favor.  This would not only eliminate the undeserved 'luck' factor, but add more interest to the game, and reward the smarter teams for getting their bids right.  Of course there will be times where they get the decisions and bids wrong, but that happens to teams and captains even when they win the 'toss' at times.  

 

Just like DRS improved umpiring, an auction to replace the toss is inevitable, but its probably a decade away.

I understand the batting gets easier batting second. That doesn't mean it is uber harder batting first.  India made it look like they were playing on the minefield.  IPL final is an example at the same venue. They made 192 which is competitive here.  Even there fastest bowler disappeared. Ferguson 56 runs in 4 overs.  KKR started well.  They were 91 in 11th over with 10 wickets in hand. But they were unable to sustain the momentum.
