Good to see the focus being changed to tests quickly.

To start with, Boult is not available. He has been invited to Mumbai Indians winter vacations celebrations so Rohit, SKY, Kishan, Boult and Pandya won't feature in the tests.

Indian XI :-

Rahul

Mayank

Pujara

Gill

Rahane(c)

Jadeja

Ashwin

Saha(wkt)

Axar( are Jadeja and Axar gonna play together)

Siraj

Umesh

Boult will do * all in India in red ball.

By India's standard, this is not a good side, good opportunity for the youngsters to enhance their stock in home conditions. But, test cricket deserves better , best available eleven should have played.

I agree. This is WTC and there should be seriousness shown to qualify.

I mean seriously..what on earth is that squad? Why aren't Rohit, Kohli, Shami and Bumrah playing? Can play the useless IPL and bilateral T20s but will sit out of an important test series against the no.1 team/ Test champions.

Batting looks extremely shaky with Gill, Pujara and Rahane occupying the top4 slots and none of them are in any sort of form. And then at 5, we'll be having either a debutant Iyer or  Mayank who hasn't played a red ball game in almost a year. If Boult, Jamieson and co find even a little assistance from the Kanpur wicket, it can get really really hard for us to put up a good total. I can already sense a 50/4 situation on the first morning.

Also keep in mind that Williamson, Taylor, Nicholls and Latham are world class players of spin bowling so it'll be a big challenge for our spin trio to bundle them out. Don't have a good feeling about this.

Rest of the team selects themselves...Umesh and siraj, + 3 spinners, and Bharat as WK

Only selection that is to be  done is around the top order...Gill or Mayank to open , Can we slot Iyer in the middle with KL and gill opening. Or mayank to open and gill in MO..

Forgot to add we'll have passenger Saha at 6 :giggle:

If KL fails, we are definitely doomed.

Still the best keeper in the country by few miles. Atleast he will get his primary job done. Can we say the same thing confidently about some of our batsmen?

Even then Southee, Jamieson and Wagner are perfectly capable of taking advantage of a fresh winter morning kanpur wicket. :nervous:

Thanks for this info man, now I am gonna watch the match live in Kanpur.

We will easily win this series as spinners like Axar, Jadeja and Ashwin will be unplayable in our spin friendly tracks.

This series was made for India to make idiot naive fans forget the absolute humiliation in T20 WC.

Expect massive wins and everything forgotten and swept under the carpet.

Has been happening since many years now.

Dravid will run around successful, Kohli will score hundreds, out of form Pujara and Rahane will also score hundreds to save their spots for another 2 years.

Script will be complete and all idiots here will forget what happened in T20 WC which was the trailer to what will happen in 50 over WC.

Playing a home test series with WTC winner. Not sure what else the BCCI can do after playing a 4 tests in Aus and 4 tests in Eng in last 12 months.

BTW the series is part of FTP and was agreed a couple of years back when it was not even known that a T20 WC will be played right before it.

That doesn't even make any sense. Are you okay with winning the world cup and losing the test series?  These are two different formats. T20 is a freaking lottery format. Australia lost 5 T20 series in row and won it. You think they will be happy to lose the Ashes?

Dude - the point is, this test series is not even worthy of discussion as India have it in the bag from day 1.

India is heavy heavy favorites here. More like 90% likely to win as the pitches will be dustbowls that make Axar and Ashwin look like Warne and Muralitharan.

This is a fact. There is no "skill" at display here. End of story.

Australia won T20 WC because they persisted with Mitch Marsh, Warner and Stoinis despite all 3 being out of form. They knew these 3 were match winners and stuck with them.

India on the other hand dropped Ishan Kishan, Surya and chopped and changed Pant's role in the team. There was zero experimentation like sending Pandya or Pant at #3 or sending Surya to open with Rahul etc.

You comparing this to ashes is hilarious. Australia at least prepare sporting pitches even if they lose. What we have here is similar to NZ preparing green mambas for all games where someone like Southee will also swing a mile. That is for ALL games.

You do not deserve the crown without worthy competition.

So on Indian pitches, why can’t other  Warnes take wickets? Kiwis are free yo select spinners as well.
Fact is Our spinners and skippers and bats know exactly what to expect and its called home advantage. Like it or not but Test series is played on back of home advantage.

Even they admitted they won because of Toss

You think Australia is a better t30 side than England. Unlike ODIs , T20 is a fluke format.

Point is, resting Rohit Sharma in this series and having him play T20 series that too as captain is height of stupidity...

Already Boult is rested as they know he will be useless in these patha wickets.

We all know the matches will be dust bowls similar to ENG series where even Root was looking like Muralitharan. Yet, somehow fans will forget the WC T20 humiliation and cheer for the team which need a harsh lesson for not even qualifying for QF of a world tournament.

This series will be a drubbing for NZ - everyone with common sense know it. But if you equate this series win to us taking "revenge" on NZ for T20 WC, I will laugh at all the idiots who say that.

Exactly who is doing that? This thread is about Tests, the comparisons will be with the NZ tests in NZ or the WTC final (not exactly a revenge).

For T20s, there are other threads where almost everyone has been saying bilateral wins do not matter much.

BTW you say Boult is rested because it will be patta wickets and in the next line you say it will be dustbowls similar to England series. Both can't be true. I hope we have normal test wickets. The team is still good enough to beat NZ on such wickets.

Indian bowling should be good enough for the kiwis.

Batting is bit iffy but if wickets are good then it should also be not a problem.

Jamieson, Southee and Wagner won't be that much of a threat on true Indian wicket.

Rohit and Pant will be missed the most. That being said, it is a chance for the other batsmen(Pujara and Rahane, mainly) to show some spine as they have no other choice than to contribute. No dust-bowls please, not because of noble ideals but because our batsmen suck on them!
