Golden chance for Ishan

Kishan's selection is certainly a step in the right direction. however, I would have preferred to see Pant and Shaw being given chances up the order

Think he was kept in squad as backup keeper. Shaw wasn't there. Pant already has place in middle order when regular openers come back so kishan or mayank was best bet.

yes, that is true. however, shaw should have been there, which is what I had been trying to say. As for Pant, he has done fairly well in MO, but I want to see him open and see how he does, at least for some period of time.

He won't be given a longer rope.  Dhawan will be back by next series.  Even if Kishan scores heavily.  Great opportunity nevertheless.  Hopefully gets all 6 games as an opener.  Left handers have clutch genes.

Its so important for Indian Cricket for the next 12-24 months, that Kishan succeeds with Hitman at the top.

I have prayed for wickets to fall when India played against SA, now Im praying for huge fast starts against the WI to possibly end Dhawan's career.

Dhawan is least of our problems in ODIs though.

Kishan

40 (28 balls) - India win but most likely dropped when KL/Dhawan comes back.

70 (100 balls) - India lose but higher chance of being retained

Sad state of our cricket.

There's no chance of getting retained with a 70(100) too.

He has only 3 chances here, needs to make a hundred.

The point you made highlights what I've said exactly.  If he needs a hundred to retain his place, he might as well play selfishly.  Let others take the risk.

Milestones, the bane of Indian cricket.

Kishan caught between a Dhawan and a hard place. :hysterical:

If he goes hard and get outs, he will end up cementing the selection of Dhawan in the future.

If he goes hard and get quick runs, he may end up cementing the selection of himself, but still not guarantee selection with Indian cricket.

one chance. KL will be back in 2nd ODI

He should be given a run. Stop-gap chances don't mean anything.  India is unable to formulate a strategy because of that. England also rotates players. But they make sure approach of the replacements don't change. In our case it is not like that.

This KL guy needs to work out his role in the side.

He is an automatic selection but doesn't have a fixed place.

This has to change and I hope it changes with Rohit coming in as white ball captain

Good. Something different to see. Importantly no tuk tuk from Rohit please. We need a fresh approach against the new ball

How about our superstar stat paddder at number 3 who has been batting with a SR of 81-82 in last few matches playing only for his average? Let SKY bat at 3 and give this stat padder a finishing role at 5/6

even i think that India needs a very good player of spin and who keeps RR up at #3 and also can play shots against Pace. . SKY may fail at times but wherever he plays 40-50 balls , he will leave the team in a much better position . Let VK play at 4 to carry the innings at good RR .
