How long is the rope for Hanuma Vihari?

He is feisty, dogged like Pujara, Dravid. There ends the comparison. Otherwise he is not even at Pujara level let alone Dravid level.  May be at no.6 he can be handy in stalling the collapse (while going nowhere)

Yes it seems they want someone who can hold one end while others bat around him.

However he needs a stretch of home games too tbf.

I think he'll play atleast till  Aus series then they'll assess.

Rohit Rahul out also allowed him to play with Pujara opening.

Yet another bad shot to get out. No feet movement, just throwing bat at a wide ball. Wonder why selectors don't see that he is not the technically correct batsman that they think he is.

He is basically a backfoot player. Same as Gill. Backfoot shots are good buy front foot doesn't move much. Alistair Cook was hardly a front foot player but still had a good career.

But Gill at least scores runs when he gets going. Vihari doesn't even do that.

As long as there is a rope given to Kohli, players like Vihari will continue to have a free ride in the team and continue to piggy back on such unwarranted ropes.

They used this comparison technique to prolong their career. When Pujara clicks.  he is still better than Rahane/Kohli. When Kohli clicks he is still better than Pujara/Rahane. When Rahane clicks he is still better than Pujara/Kohli.

In home games also he has done nothing special. This guy just doesn't have the spark. For all his faults, Iyer seized the moment with a century on debut. Home conditions, sure, but what did Vihari do in the same conditions? Not much.

That's so true.....When Kohli score some 41 run in SA we heard the same thing. Right now as well Gujara band wagon giving the same excuse and it was no different when Hahane made that scintillating Melbourne 100. What I say is kick them all out .

I can understand persisting with Kohli and Pujara because of their past record but what has Vihari done to get this long a rope?

Saved a test in Australia by hanging around with Ashwin.     They together survived almost 35 overs on 5th day, after we had lost 6 wickets.

Doesn't mean he can play forever. Had a horrible match with bat and dropped the all important catch of JB when he was on 12.A match losing effort.

He won't even play the next test match, by which time Rohit will be back. Vihari will be dropped as Pujara has clinched a spot for himself with a useful contribution.

Lot of respect for Vihari :hatsoff:

But why is he batting left handed? Wouldn't it be easier to bat right handed even if it means with one hand? Isn't the bottom hand more important to generate power?

his left hand is injured. So if he bats right handed, the left hand will face bowler and more prone to being hit.
