zen Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 2023 ODI WC is in Oct-Nov in India. Should senior players like Rohit, KL, Kohli, Bhuvi, & Ashwin be considered for that world cup (after spoiling the last 2 T20 WCs for India)? Or should India focus on developing a relatively new LOI team. If the team does well, great; if not, it would be better placed to do well in the 2024 T20 WC. Can India afford to rebuild late where it could potentially sacrifice both 2023 & 2024 world cups? Discuss.
sandeep Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 Ashwin can be critical, so can anyone of Rohit/KL/Kohli. Problem is that we can't accommodate all 3 in the batting lineup. India should have been auditioning alternatives already - we are very very late in the game. Vijy 1
nevada Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 No, they are all past it and will be even more declined one year later. Gill, Samson, Iyer, Shaw are some of the names to be considered for the batting line-up. Patidar seems quite promising as well and hopefully gets opportunities to prove himself.
Vk1 Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 Senior pros are likely to do well in ODIs in league stage.. once KOs come they will be found wanting unless we get to play on 350+ wickets.. having said that we have not played juniors consistently but better to play mix of youngsters and seniors express bowling 1
Chakdephatte Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 (edited) When you are given four years for preparation, you start making changes from 1st day itself. Doing it in last year isn't a good idea. May work with exception players like Gill, but not others. Edited November 17, 2022 by Chakdephatte

cricketfan28 Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 All young team might do well but will succumb to pressure and will be made scapegoat, better to leave it to seniors as not much time left to experiment with young guns. I still believe we can win the cup with seniors they are made for 50-50 not t20. Vk1 1

Bhuvi i thought was kept ut of Odi set up I know fraud will sneak through,Rohit will not be able to scrore fluently,Dhawan not sure about either Kohli is also dicey So in all ,recipe for disaster once again They had all the time in the while, they just took the bait of "ODI superleague" too seriously from ICC express bowling 1
RameshPowar Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 (edited) This should be the team for 2023 WC. Good blend of youth and experience. Shikhar Dhawan (C) Cheteshwar Pujara Manish Pandey Baba Indrajith Ambati Rayudu Dinesh Karthik (WK) Vijay Shankar Baba Aprajith Bhuvneshwar Kumar Jaydev Unadkat Chetan Sakariya Edited November 18, 2022 by RameshPowar Frustrated, Majestic, Sgattick10 and 2 others 4 1
Majestic Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 Dhawan, Ashwin and Bhuvi shouldn't be in the team. Rest should either perform or else get dropped. KL Rahul doesn't give us anything new which we won't get from Suryakumar, Shreyas or Samson. You can easily play Pandya at 5 and have Suryakumar at 6.
Bigg Brother Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 It should have started after SF debacle in 2019..Too late now. SRT100 1

Rest should be Young players who are performing. My ideal X1 will have VK & KL in MO and Bhumra and Chahal in some matches , rest all youngsters. In reality selectors will pick see mostly 4 senior batsmen (VK, RS, KL & Dhawan) in 15 man squad which is one too many and may be 3 pacers ( Bhumra, Chahal & May be Shami)

Tewatia / ? 8. Jadeja / Shahbaz 9. Kuldeep / Bishnoi 10. Bumrah / Sen / Siraj 11. Prasidh / Siraj ... Rahul, if played, can't bat above 4 ... One dashing opener a must ... rkt.india Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 Our depleted team defeated South Africa almost frontline squad at home. I would like the same team with some tweaks to continue in ODIs.

India are having so many debacles, they just all roll into one big mess. Its a shame as India has the capacity to win these tournaments. Respect is earned in WC tournaments, not in insignificant meaningless IPL.
rkt.india Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 This is the squad. Drop Dhawan, Avesh, mukesh, thakur.
Sonix768 Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 (edited) Its the most prestigious Cricket tournament and it's happening in India so, whether we like it or not, our selectors and TM would never take courageous actions and always would select safer and more predictable options only. So brace yourself for the following lineup. Rohit Dhawan Kohli Rahul Pant Pandya Jadeja Shami Bumrah <Rotational spot for bowlers: Siraj/Prasidh/Bhuvi/Ashwin/Arshdeep/Kuldeep/Bishnoi/Chahar/Thakur or any flavor of the season younger bowler> Chahal Edited November 18, 2022 by Sonix768
Sooda Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 (edited) In a word - No It is not good for us that ODIs are effectively an extension of T20 cricket. Indeed it is not good for the sport overall. ODIs are increasingly redundant in the T20 era. Even watching batsmen bash 350 scores on pattas is just... boring... no skill involved. Given that, we cannot accommodate our current top three/four. Or , we only can if KL Rahul really commits to being the attacking force we know he can be and not the accumulator he is currently being. It is even hard to see how both Virat and Rohit can be accommodated- flip side is that they are all time ODI greats and I think can still contribute especially in home ODIs, just need that "intent". Need depth and power in the lineup , there isnt enough of that now. Bowlers who can bat especially, as I see the likes of Sundar and Shabaz and as good as they are and potentially are, they are not lower order LOI bats. Dhawan should be dropped, he is an ODI legend for us, but his time has passed. I think a middle order of Iyer and SKY will be a good one to take down spinners at home in the middle overs. A good ODI 11/ squad for me to try out vs NZ and Bang would be : Gill, Pant, Gaekwad, S Iyer , SKY, Hardik (c) , Sundar, D Chahar, Sen, Arshdeep, Bishnoi Patidar/Shaw, Samson, Hooda, Shabaz, R Chahar, Siraj Edited November 18, 2022 by Sooda
LordPrabhzy Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 Rohit, Dhawan and Kohli WILL play- its their last home 50 WC and Indians are obsessed with personal desires rather than what's best for the team so expect a push from BCCI for them to be included- fans will tune in more to see a potential WC winning and career finishing knocks by any of the three oldies
