Is KL Rahul another Murali Vijay with massive backing from selectors ?

Just like Rahul ex-CSK opener Murali Vijay was very good in IPLs but could never do well in T20Is. Rahul has bullied some poor attacks in T20Is but against any in-form attack he is always a walking wicket.

Both of them are very good looking stroke makers when in touch with effortless six hitting abilities.

In tests Vijay did well in 2013 SA tour and 2014 England and Australia tours but could never maintain the consistency. Similarly KL plays good knocks in tests here and there but always fails to have that stellar series which makes him an assured name in the XI.

Vijay was very poor in ODIs and Rahul is definitely better than him in One-Days but still even after 7-8 years Rahul hasn't cemented himself in this format too.

Vijay faced competition from Sehwag, Gambhir and then in white ball Dhawan, Rohit and Rahane took their chances well while Rahul gets selected in all formats ahead of everyone else even after long injury layoffs without any games at domestics to prove fitness or form.

No comparison. Vijay was hardly a regular in either T20 or ODI. T20s are played more now than when Vijay played. Even in the IPL M Vijay played a great match winning knock in the final. KL Rahul is yet to play such a knock even in the IPL. M Vijay for a brief period was used as a stop gap opener. At that time bowling attack was world class all around the world. Second time he shouldn't have been picked based on past history. They realized it and dropped him.

Literally irrelevant comparison. Murali Vijay was never in scheme of things, He was selected in CT13 and still Rohit-a non opener was played ahead of him. Vijay for a brief period played brilliantly in overseas tests. Vijay was never in contention for captaincy role like KLR. And Vijay played brilliantly in his first tour to England and Australia in tests something most players can't do even after touring those place 2-3 times. He was good at home tests and was discarded when his performance declined.. And in IPL, Vijay won matches for CSK on his own (2010 I guess) unlike KLR who is match loser for his own team...

No. KL had close to 50 average and 150 SR in T20Is in the early years of his career, even scoring a century once. I dont remember Vijay having similar numbers at any point of his T20I career.

M Vijay was never in contention for T20 selection. He was never a T20 batsman apart from when he played a specific role for CSk. He did well in that role especially in the south africa edition of IPL.

Weird comparison.

M Vijay in LOIs was never backed and he was neither anything special skill wise too. He got his chance in Tests and he played a decent role there. He wasn't a mental midget too.

KL Rahul has got a lot of backing and praise for the class of batting he belongs to but has failed to live upto that expectation. He has been a massive underachiever and a mental midget.

In Test cricket, they both should end up in same league but since this discussion is about white ball cricket, there is no similarity between them.

Vijay had more mental fortitude than Rahul ever had in his life.Rahul looks talented against inferior bowling attack. He is one of the most overrrated batsmen in history of Indian cricket. He never should have played so many international matches for India. He should be kicked out from all formats.

He and Kohli almost pulled off a 4th innings gabba miracle ala Pant style.  India was 242/2 when he got out chasing 344. If only we had Pant instead of Saha in  that match we could have nailed that Test. Then Rahane got a rough decision. We collapsed to 315.

Yes so true.People ask what did Kohli win as a captain. When you are saddled with so many half asses played , no captain can win anything.

Don't think Vijay got much chances in t20s and Odis and certainly not the type of Backing Kela has currently.

Vijay deserved the backing in test matches as he was a class batsman and played some back to wall knocks in that format .Also He played spin much better than our current marathas

you won't find out if you keep playing same set of players

there are many who perform in IPL but arent given a fair chance in T20Is

Who are those again? He captained in one t20 world cup. His successor also chose more or less team. Why are people acting as if he captained multiple t20 world cups.

Anybody performing. Guys like Samson,Gill,Shaw etc. Bowlers like Chahar,Krishna etc. AR like Tewatia etc

not saying they are certainly good, but need to get good run before dumping them.

If you keep playing same players you keep getting same results.
