Pollack Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 After long-awaited second chance, Jaydev Unadkat should be part of India's plans for Tests against Australia: Karsan Ghavri "It is a brilliant comeback after 12 years. Age is just a number for him," former India pacer Karsan Ghavri said talking to TimesofIndia.com in an exclusive interview. "If a player doesn't get a chance for 3 or 4 or say 5 years, they tend to give up, they lose hope. But Unadkat is a real fighter." "When Dinesh Karthik can play at the age of 37 and perform well for India, why not Unadkat? Unadkat has been consistent in Ranji Trophy. He has been taking wickets. He is back in the Indian side and I am sure he will play a big and long role here. So age has nothing to do with cricketing abilities. It is all about fitness and form. Unadkat has both the boxes ticked," Ghavri, who played 39 Tests and 19 ODIs for India between 1975 and 1981, said. Dinesh karthik performed well? That's news to me. "In 2019, I spoke with the selectors about Unadkat because I (had) played with them and they are my friends. I told them that this guy (Unadkat) is taking wickets in almost every match he is playing. (But) They said 'no, we will not consider him; his age is a problem'. I told them age has nothing to do with cricketing abilities. Unadkat was at his best. He is still one of the best bowlers in our country, and he was doing tremendously well in 2019 and India could use his magnificent form," Ghavri said. "He deserved to be in the Indian time in 2019. He was the highest wicket-taker in Ranji Trophy that season. He was at his peak. But he had to wait for three more years to don the Indian jersey again. As we say 'der aaye durust aaye' (better late than never). Unadkat's arrival in world cricket again is an apt statement," he said "I knew he will reap the rewards of his hard work. I never saw that 'give up' expression on him. He was just going with the flow and the best part was that he was keen on trying new things every day. He was putting in all the hard work. He was a captain as well as a great team man. Finally, he got the chance. "He is 31. I saw his bowling (against Bangladesh) on TV and he bowled the way he did in Ranji Trophy matches. When he got his first Test wicket, I was clapping for him. I could see the happiness and relief on his face...He is more clever now. He plans things accurately and the best part is that he is a complete team man," Ghavri added "Unadkat shouldn't be dropped. He should be given a long rope now. We will be playing versus Australia now and Unadkat should play all the Tests in the series. He bowled really well in this Test match (against Bangladesh). He deserves to be in the Indian side for some time. It's a great fightback and a great comeback from Unadkat. He is a special player," he said. https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/news/after-long-awaited-second-chance-jaydev-unadkat-should-be-part-of-indias-plans-for-tests-against-australia-karsan-ghavri/articleshow/96535701.cms raki05, Clarke, Norman and 3 others 6
vvvslaxman Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 Oh my god. Has he beecome politician too? He has kept himself away from public generally lol. Ghavri used to bowl left arm seam up and once the ball got old he would bowl spin. May be he shades of himself in Unadkat. Mosher, Lord, Suhaan and 3 others 6

If everyone starts supporting players from their states only then bye bye Team India. Ghavri is the head coach of Saurashtra. Nothing wrong in head coach suggesting or supporting his team's best bowler for Indian team selection. That's how it works. All region's lobby their best names for selections. It's selection committee's responsibility to rubbish undeserving names like they did in 2019 for unadkat. AuxiliA 1

He has the height. his surprise bouncer is quite good and this is coming from someone who personally hates trundlers/slow bowlers. I am a Big fast bowling fan. However, from what I saw vs bangladesh I thought he looked more dangerous than even siraj in the second test. I do agree with you and I certainly do not place much faith in him vs aussie batsmen. What impresses me is that has won ranji multiple times, right? Surely he cant be that bad in India. Yes vinay kumar has won multiple times but he isn't 6'3 and doesn't have the bounce effect of jaydev. He also isn't as skilled. Bear in mind, I am NOT advocating for a trundler but if we have to bloody pick one I would rather us pick jaydev. Edited December 27, 2022 by speedracer

Mcgrath speed but mcgrath was obviously accurate and had consistent steep bounce. He could vary his length with ease. Hence he is the best ever. Jaydeb if he can do what mcg did at 50% or his capacity then we may have a decent trundler who can bat a bit.

Mesky99 Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 Regionalism at its best, Jaydev ain't the only one picking wickets at the domestic level, ghavri obviously does not watch domestic cricket and just randomly makes up things, Pankaj Singh, kulkarni, kaul were all potent wicket takers, trundlers with zero skillset like gaja, kalaria are unplayable at times but we all know standard is not quite great and these one trick pony's make merry during supportive pitches, why cant ghavri just retire, how much more do you want to mint Indian cricket Mosher, rollingstoned, Lone Wolf and 1 other 4
vvvslaxman Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 Australia will practice against Mitch starc to face Jayadev lol A guy who is taller and faster. This is going to be a trainwreck. In order to practice against similar bowler they have to face Beherendoff in the nets.
Vijy Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 if unadcut is selected, then 3-1 for aus is feasible. warner, smith, labu, and khawaja will pulverize this guy into mincemeat Mosher 1
Laaloo Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 No problem with that. Unadkat Bhuvi Sandeep Sharma Ramesh Power Rishi Dhawan That is an ideal bowling attack for the Australia series. Suhaan, Lone Wolf, rollingstoned and 5 others 7 1
zen Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 Too much time being wasted on discussing “one” slot, and when likes of Unadkat usually come in as injury replacement. Even if he is selected, he is unlikely to feature in the playing 11 unless the team needs 3 or more seamers.
putrevus Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 Why stop at Unadkt, why not get Bhuvi, Chahar and all other trundlers into the team. raki05 and express bowling 1 1
