Interesting to see Ashwin being floated as a option.  I'd take him over collar chewer in a heartbeat.

In case we play a team like Eng in Lucknow...  ash + Kuldeep combo would be crucial.  Ash offers some batting too @Gollum

Bhai I will take any random ICFer over chwtiya Chahal, hate his cowardly attitude even more than his lack of skills.

Digressing here but looking at the state of fitness of most Indian cricketers (freak injuries are different, bad luck as well often), I have to bring an example from another sport. Can we expect 10% of this discipline from any of our shoopershtars?

You are going overboard a bit too much.Indian players these days have been very very fit. After Kohli took over fitness was given lot of importance.

Are some of the players like Rohit unfit, yes they are but overall general fitness has increased in last five years.

and in contrast, we have fatty McFats (Vada Pav); sarfaraz khan; prithvi "geriatrix" shaw; ashwin (poor fitness, struggled to pass yo-yo test in the past); washington sundar (glass body), stick insect collar chewer (zero physical ability), and so on. I have not even named the quicks, since they can be more injury prone.

all of the above are/were ind team players or have been close to selection.

most indian players, barring a few like Brat, don't have even 1% the dedication of djoker

There are some rumors floating that Jasprit Bumrah will replace Pandya as vice captain.  If its turns out to be true, Pandya must have ruffled someone's feathers because otherwise it will be very harsh to drop Pandya from vice captaincy due to 1 series loss.

Multiple reports that both KL and Iyer will not be in the Asia cup squad as the management is not sure of their match fitness.

It true, they will most probably not be in WC squad too.

Feel it is curtains for Shreyas's white ball career.

Looks like what Shastri said is being followed. Gill/Kishan will open and Rohit will come at no. 4. Surya-Jaddu-Pandya will be 5-6-7 in no particular order.

How it's curtains? Rohit will retire from ODIs after the WC. Iyer will replace him. May even become odi captain.

This is 2007 World Cup all over again...

Rohit Sharma in the middle order just would not work and will become a lose-lose scenario for us. He's one of the better players of the new ball we've got right now and Kishan/Gill just do not have the defence to see off when the ball is moving around.

Would prefer Rohit opening with Kishan and push Gill down to 4. Use Jadeja as the middle order consolidator at 5 and Pandya/Sky as finishers.

Yeah he's still 28. Lots and lots of time left for him at this level.

He will be 30 in no time. Hasn't been in T20 scheme of things ever.

With the rise of Tilak who can also bowl and Rinku as finisher  He may find it difficult to find his spot back as both are long term options.

Don't think Gill has middle order game at all. Also don't think we have to worry about moving ball that much in India. If it moves then we are anyway fcked. :p:

Jadeja is the biggest fraud out there with a terrible ODI record with the bat.  He can't hit even when set.  A strict no 7 player at most.

I think entire batting line up is f***d up.  I'd put SKY at no 6 to maybe take something outta him in ODIs as our finishing game sucks.

With Rohit Gill Kohli in Top 3 we would need someone like him to push towards 300 or close to it every time.

Can't stand Jadeja in LOI's and I've said so in other threads but he bowled fairly well in this IPL and he can hit pace .

Problem is - Can he bowl well defensively for 10 overs and hit pace for longer periods?   I see no evidence of that.

I would say the same thing too but in Indian conditions, we do not have a better balancing option than him at the moment. Sundar looks undercooked with the bat and Axar can't be trusted to bat more than 5-6 overs.

This is why I was advocating for part timers as the 6th bowling option (Tilak and Jaiswal while dropping sky) but it's too late for this phattu team management to have the balls to take such a risk.

So looks like KL and Shreyas are out of both Asia Cup and the World Cup. Unfortunate for us but a sensible decision to not rush them straight back.

So that would mean a guaranteed slot now for both Kishan and Samson which pretty much rules out Jaiswal and Tilak from the world cup plans. Asia Cup is a 17 member squad so one of them might sneek in but they'll most likely won't get a single game or get one against Nepal which would mean nothing.

Our most likely XI against Pakistan..

Rohit

Gill

Kohli

SKY

Kishan

Pandya

Jadeja

Shardul

Kuldeep

Siraj

Bumrah

Yep..  He bowled decently in IPL for a change & after a long while.  I have not much issues with his bowling but I am never convinced with his batting as soon as RR touches 8 RPO in a chase.  Too one dimensional,  zero innovation in his batting.  Power game has always been suspect imo.

One of the reasons I want Axar playing at 6 in the ODI side is simply his ability against spin as a batter.  He has averaged 62 against spin in Indian Tests since 2021  and in all T20's since 2020, he averages 34 and strikes at 136.   ODI's since 2020 , average of 99 and SR of 116(small sample).

He is a better player of spin than some of our "batsmen" across formats. His bowling hasn't been that impressive off late though which is disappointing.
