I guess this is the first time I am more excited for our bowling than the batting. I never imagined I will see such day as an Indian fan.

Bumrah, Siraj, Shami, Krishna, Pandya

all of them can bowl around 90 mph and all of them are attacking bowlers.

Kuldeep as a skillful leggie is an asset to have.

Our batting has gone down significantly and barring Gill there is no exciting batter.

There's always that one last minute selection of a player with little to no experience. Sometimes, it works, sometimes it doesn't.

2011 - R Ashwin (he had played just 7 ODIs before the WC)

2015 - Stuart Binny (nepo quota)

2019 - Vijay Shankar (Rayudu should have been there.. His poor form just before the WC opened the door for 3D Shankar)

2023 - Tilak Verma (Should have been Iyer if not for his injury)

Ek X factor quota already expired by our very own generational talent Shunya Kumar Yadav.

TM understands that this will be a tournament where we have to try to outbowl the opposition instead of trying to outbat them which we could do with our batting resources until 2019 WC. They've understandably selected a squad which reflects that reality.

Haan. Only one of Tilak or SKY will make the final 15 I think

Prior to 2015 WC we played a Tri series in Aus, despite some early wickets from pacers, Jaddu and Ash could not put any pressure on Steve Smith in middle overs.

He kept owning us the whole summer and in the end same story repeated in WC SF. Same thing in 2016 ODI series we played there, our batsmen will score 300+ and Aussies would just sleepwalk to that total.

It was painful to watch Jaddu and Ashwin being toyed by then newbie Fakhar Zaman In CT17. Ended Ash's ODI career.

Ashwin did well in the 2015 WC, even in SF only he turned up. He had his utility till early 2016 I feel.

If that be the case, one should abandon all hope of a win.

Pandya and Bumrah could get injured walking the ramp. Shami has not bowled 10 overs in a long time.

To expect this lot to bowl 10 overs at their best game after game is unrealistic.

Which is why the preparation should have been better going into such big tournaments. They have played too many pointless t20s and used that as a criteria to pick a team for a format that has different challenges.

Thankfully since it is in SL some of the workload can be managed by the spinners. Pandya will only bowl 6-7 overs IMO and instead of Shami we will pick Siraj as he is the best ODI bowler in the world over the past year.

The likes of Nagaraj Gollapudi are pretty convinced that Tilak Varma and Prasidh Krishna are going to be cut from this squad for the World Cup. Whatever little diversity these two brought will be finished and we will get smashed.

The starting top 6 will all be right-handers.

If Hardik is out of form with the bat or gets a niggle for a crucial game, we will be forced to play Axar, Jadeja and Thakur at 6,7 and 8.

That weakens the batting and we end up forced with 2 SLAs even if the pitch does not aid spin.

If Shreyas Iyer gets a niggle, we will have to play a non-performing SKY who can't bowl either .

Also without Prasidh,  we will have no choice but to play Shami if Bumrah has a niggle and those 2 are very similar bowlers who can be lined up.

Prasidh's higher release offers a point of difference.

So, basically our already meagre chances rest on Hardik Pandya being fit enough to bowl for all 11 matches in the World Cup.

Probably one of the most underwhelming & unexciting Indian squads i can remember in some time going into a major tournament from whom not much is going to be expected but still the best we can put out. It might work in our favor though, you never know, as we don't do well with the favorites tag.

So, we don't have any ganes before the next game agains Pak on Sep 2? Margailo baba!

I dunno which is better - us walking into 1st game vs Pak as is or Pak play their first game with..... <drumroll> Nepal and then play us.

After the Windies tour and the Ireland tour, I will pass up on the Nepals.

Ashwin, Jadeja both should have been permanently sidelined from white ball cricket around 2016, no doubting their greatness in tests but the era of conventional finger spin has been over in shorter formats for more than half a decade. Alas our people have no vision.

very true, once the rules regarding fielding restrictions were changed, finger spinners have become extinct.

Not sure I like the rule but need to see the reality

There is a better chance Arjun Kapoor winning an Oscar.

We are playing our first 2 games at Palakelle on 2nd and 4th Sept.    There is high possibility of both these games being washed out.  (As per latest weather reports).....Would be fun if it happens.

Crossing my fingers that I am wrong but something tells me, we won't be playing the final this year. I am not too confident in the team we selected and how out of form our team is in atm.  Pakistan is in hot form in ODI, they will most likely be one of the finalists. The Lankans, you can never count them out (as we all witnessed last year). Also, BD has been in hot ODI form too. Very tough call but one thing is for certain, PAK will be one of the finalists.

Rain prediction for India Pak Asia cup game - 60 pc :hysterical:

Saturday is a sure shot washout. Precipitation amount is 2.2 to 4mm after 2:30 PM :giggle: till 7 PM. That's very heavy rain. We might have a shortened game on Sep 4 as there is rain but it doesn't look like a washout atm.

Our kaptaan and TM were actually too smart.  They must hv used AI technique to predict that all the Asia Cup matches from Super 4 onwards were going to be of 20 overs (max) due to rain.   And hence SKY was included.  Now, SKY (the t20 specialist) should play every game in this Asia Cup.  :cantstop:
