I am still not in favour of cancelling WTC...maybe just extend the cycle to 4 years.

Players these days have to pivot quite often, first WTC, then T20 WC and then ODI WC...and all 3 formats require varied skillset.

Instead we should actually FORCE selectors to choose format specialist players. Multi format is a thing of past but sadly our obsolete mentality refuses to let go.

Make selectors watch all the games, figure out the right players and select the team.

agree.. have it a bit longer if required but continue it

Two years is perfect as it culminates the good or bad work by a particular group of players.

Four years is too long for a same group to play together.

They are not playing World Cup where each team starts fresh in the tournament.

What the eff are you talking about? Do you know how long it took for the second best test side ever, under Waugh, to take shape? It started under Border, I'd argue their 86/87 India tour & of course the first WC win - so 12 years! Similarly under Smith for SA - good half decade plus although the core (Kallis/Pollock/Boucher) was much older.

You can basically conjure up a decent side inside a year & still win the trophy easily. tests are much much harder to win consistently!

What the hell you talking, what has Waugh’s side got to with WTC,

Injuries happen to fast bowlers and a good team can become not so good if they lose bowlers for Finals. Four years is long time for fast bowlers to stay fit.

50 over World Cup, you start fresh in tournament, you know  your team before you begin the tournament.

A good/great Test side takes years to develop, also because tests are played much less than LO cricket especially these days. There is no such thing as a WC cycle, we won the 83 Cup with a rag tag bunch, same with 07 WT20 - tell me you were born past 2k because your arguments sound so childish!

Tests don't lend themselves well to this knockout format imo. Reward consistency over a period of time instead like a league.

The mace was the perfect reward for achieving #1 test ranking. WTC is a farce, with blatant rigging of home pitches to grab cheap points. And even that has blown up in our face, with our batsmen shivering like little princesses if the pitch poses ANY kind of challenge and our bowlers flat as a cardboard if the pitch is not a nasty piece of work.

We have successfully ruined both our batting as well as bowling in the quest for cheap points. I miss the days when our batsmen used to score big and our pacers used to wreck the opposition in home tests. We better prepare proper tracks and lose honorably than try to score cheap points with shoddy ones!

In my opinion WTC doesn't bring anything to the table,

It hasn't helped in making tests popular again

Outside Aus-Eng we barely see people coming to grounds to watch 5 days of cricket despite WTC

Plus,in the longer run,it isn't helping develop newcomers vs easy opponents without the fear of loosing crucial points

Pacers suffer the most, top pacers from each side are forced to play or rushed to play causing aggravating their unhealed injuries or relapses

I found pre 2019 tests rather exciting and refreshing

What is your opinion?

Test cricket was never popular and will never be popular to larger masses. that is a fact, there are only few series where fans comes to view in the stadium. Mostly Aus and Eng fans. Rest everywhere its just empty stands.

Is wtc bringing any interest amongst the teams ?? Ans is no, only 2/3 teams care and by mid of it most of teams know they are not going to make it to wtc so they too are not interested. Playing finals at lords is skewed towards sena teams.

as for newer player -- earlier some1 was sure to be v.good fc player then only they would have got the direct chance to test side, players would have to prove their credentials in the odis 1st before they get a chance in test side.

T20 is very role specific format (specially at the leagues level)and is rewarding to high risk %, where is test rewards lowest risk % and is more about ability specific.

So selecting player from 2 v.diff is always a bad idea.

Now coming to bowlers- every team like to have a t20 specialist bowler -- like ellis, curran, harsal or a mystery spinner. Hence the choice of seeing an accessing a bowler in t20 is limited, plus a test bowler will always struggle in t20s unless they are fast and have Yorkers and slower ones ,i.e white-ball skills. An ordinary test bowler who bowls line length will not get much success in t20s so your choices of selecting a test bowler(from t20 league) is decreasing . Then there are bowlers like prince yadav, rauf who have while-ball skills yorlers, bouners, slower ones but they do not have stock-ball that they can ball over after overs.
