Plus, the choices they made when they were in Cold War. Countries like Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Austria etc were tiny puny useless chipmunks as against the US camp which had major power like France, UK. USSR couldn't even bring in China under their umbrella despite both being a Communist nation ideologically. USSR could also have ideally engulfed Nordic nations & Indja but they were just too lazy. Their biggest win was in Vietnam and from 1960-1979 USSR was a real force, but they miscalculated and the mishap in Afghanistan just gave them a big L. After that USSR just nosedived while US picked up pace. Russia can still manage on its own territory very well and blow away US. But outside of their boundaries they're vulnerable.

This country was built on years of investment in innovation, entrepreneurial spirit and meritrocracy. It's because of such strong foundation, the US can do what it wants to. Think of all innovation in the field of aerospace engineering, computer science, medicine, you name it! So many scientists from Nazi Germany moved to America with the remaining going to the Soviet Union. Henry Ford, bringing 9-5 work hours with 5 day workweek, bringing work life balance concept to the world. India's problem is not ahimsa dharma, this philosophy was followed during Mauryan era too (when India was equivalent to present day China/Russia). India lost the plot due to centuries of treasons which led to invasions and colonisation.
