For casual cricket viewer, it wont make much sense. Think he is telling the same bat-maker/sponsor are giving them diff. bats compared to what they are giving to Ind players.

 

At top level there is not much of a diff. they all get top of line bats, but there can be a case the Ind bat-makers are reserving some cleft for Ind batters. 

But the diff is not that much. The focus is mostly on the weight, most players these days wants low density bats. Bigger bats but less weight.

 

Some players can get their bats made by some-other bat-maker and label as what ever their sponsors are if they are not happy with the bats they are getting.

They can get Aus/Eng/NZ made bats and add stickers of their sponsors, incase they think they are not getting the best bats.

 

And he is right donot think in asa one can buy those top of the line bats, uk/nz/few-Aus bat-makers can give you the bats they send it their professionals

Ponting's bat had graphite backing on the back of the bat, that has nothing to do with the ping of that bat. but icc got it removed and there are new laws that tells how much of the bat can be stickered
