So the result is that other teams may not reach the playoffs more often but are more likely to win the cup. If your goal is to reach playoffs consistently and not win anything like RCB and Indian teams of old, GT is spot on. But if their goal is to win the tourney, they'll need to change their approach coz they team structure and approach is flawed.

Exactly. They are the kind of team that will be limited in their range.

GT doesn't have a single player in the top 20. Even tuk tuk Kohli and mental midget KL Rahul improved their striking capability this season. Sai and Gill are nowehere close to the top strikers. If your top two batters who both open just strive for a "safe" total and not go for anything more, then more than likely, they will be able to score a lot of runs at a middling strike rate. But they will always fall short when they come across a team with a player in red hot form.

 

For T20s you need X-factor players like Vaibhav or Abhishek to set the tone for the innings.

SRK 

 

Also the Gill and Sai S opening partnership needs to end. Eisherhousen if I got the name right (or Banton if he comes back) can open with one of them.

You could see this coming from mile away.  This team has far too many IPL winners for various other teams. Depth with batting and bowling. . 2 men army had no chance.

And it still makes it to 3 finals in 5 years, beating teams with an approach without flaws.
