randomGuy Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 Despite using internet, smartphones etc. they believe in astrology, still do all rituals related to marriages, festivals, relatives etc, rigid on gender roles and generally more angry. Younger generation have their own issues but is cooler in comparison, they just want to mind their own business. tweaker 1
zen Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 IIRC, some studies have found that IQ of younger generation to be higher than older generation's (influenced by various factors including environment), while some studies have found humans to be getting dumber Based on what you wrote, it appears as if the topic is linked to science vs religion
HippoSucks Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Religious or cultural values has nothing to do with IQ. beetle 1
Vilander Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Honestly i have seen learning disability in older generations of my extended frineds and famly, also attention span issues, it could be age related but their jobs and prime age life style and beliefs seems to hint at a degree of intellectual challenge. randomGuy 1

Conventional wisdom would say otherwise. The older generation are likelier to have longer attention spans, as they weren't always hooked onto their mobiles. I'm yet to see a 15 year old who doesn't find the need to check his phone every 5 minutes. If my aunt were to come to my home, being the talkative person that she is, I would expect a detailed description of the surrounding areas, the traffic, parking problems, changes in the shops etc. If her daughter were to accompany her, in spite of having those same verbose genes, would barely notice any of this. randomGuy and bulbul 2

beetle Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 The IQ of younger generation should be better than the previous generation if you believe in evolution. Can't say the same about attention span.My attention span is less than my mother and daughter. randomGuy 1

Festivals are mainly done so that people can celebrate together , yes they go out of hand year after year due to pouring more money/prestige issues but the basic reason still remains same. randomGuy 1

So Russian younger generation is born with low IQ as there is massive revival of Russian church. i read an article which said that in 80s , There was craze among Russian younger population to go to church and get Baptised as they consider it as cool , while older grand parents part of Communist revolution used to be strict atheist Quote Government support is not the reason, however, why churches are full on Sundays and holy days. That is because Orthodoxy is rebounding as a very strong influence in Russian life today. Russia has celebrated the Christian faith as expressed in Eastern Orthodoxy for over a thousand years and it is deeply ingrained in Russian culture and in the hearts of many believers. In 2008 the government released findings that approximately 67% of the population call themselves as Orthodox believers. The under 30 population is swelling in what some call a “revival” of faith. Countries like Belarus, Georgia, Ukraine, Bulgaria and Moldova are reporting similar growth in interest in the Orthodox faith. Churches are packed and sometimes lines form with parishioners waiting patiently outside for someone to leave so they can enter. In Russia this has caused the government to work with the church to speed up the process of rehabilitating churches which were seized for other purposes by the Soviet government after the 1917 revolution. https://russianreport.wordpress.com/religion-in-russia/orthodoxy-in-russia-today/

Comparing 55+ to 25-45. And mobile devices are just one aspect that probably has a negative impact on intellectual ability of the future gen, i am yet to see empirical evidence of the same but anecdotal its certain. But from what i have seen older gen definitely have learning disability and at times are flat out dumb, say in real life situations that contemporary working couple would face now. There is also the possibility of exposure coming into play, i find some attitude related issues in even older people with exposure.

You mean the older generation have these issues in the latter stage of their life. That is ageing for you. Not fair to compare the intellectual faculties of a person in his/her prime and people in the twilight of their lives.

But what i ment to say in less generalized observation is this, Indian older gen had a more causal mode driven or purely reactive existence in comparison to the current generation, you can say older gen is 60+ now and current gen are under 45-50 who have often competed in globalized economy, 50-60 could exist in either probably. Its mostly anecdotal or self conceptual not empirical at all and a bit colored by my circumstances. randomGuy 1
ravishingravi Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 I think we are confusing information with intelligence. We are in an age of information overload, but I am not sure if we have the attention and intelligence to make sense of it. The so called youngsters are confident because of their information. I believe we lack the attention, patience and presence of the "older" generation. bulbul 1

As you rightly pointed out, kids have knowledge available readily. However, in order to do something really great, one needs to have a depth of knowledge not just breadth.Thats where maybe this generation falls short. They have too many pursuits. ravishingravi 1

By intelligence/IQ, I meant having the mindset of minding one's own business, not overly interfering in other people's lives or decisions, letting go of the stupid rituals mentioned in OP, using common sense and mostly just taking it easy and chilling. Older people seriously lack this..... The current generation will be far better when they grow old I think.
