My only minor qualm with the team is that maybe they could've picked Kuldeep instead of Jayant considering he is a better bowler other than that, given the injuries they've selected a solid squad. Rahul and Bhuvi should be back in XI when they return back from injury. Rohit seems to be out for a long time(needs surgery) and Dhawan hopefully doesn't get back in the team at all.

is a pretty solid team with a very good lower order.

Squad announced for the first two Tests against England.

Squad Virat Kohli (capt), R Ashwin, Gautam Gambhir, Ravindra Jadeja, Amit Mishra, Mohammad Shami, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Wriddhiman Saha, Karun Nair, M Vijay, Umesh Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Ishant Sharma, Jayant Yadav

Can't understand the call up to Pandya in the test team unless the plan is to play him ahead of Rohit @ 6 and play 5 bowlers (3rd spinner in Mishra) and Pandya as 2nd seamer. Would make no sense really

yes, he might be played as 2nd seamer and bat at 6 or 7.

Lol at including Pandya- needs to prove himself at the first class level first (has potential though) and gain more experience of the five day game. Test cricket is a format where every deficiency gets magnified to nth degree.

Umesh and Shami both provide crucial breakthroughs- must stick with them.

Jadeja and Ashwin- givens

If you wish to play 5 bowlers- can play Mishra. He can bat a bit  too.

if wish to play 6 pure batsmen- play karun Nair. Good as time as any to try him.

With Mishra as the third spinner, I don't see Yadav getting a chance here. Isn't he better off playing Ranji? 12/13 man squad would be sufficient, or is he selected as a net bowler to get ready to face Moeen's world class bowling?

No 7 ODIs this time?

Last time we had a 7 ODI series was against aus which eventually turned out to be a 5 match series with 2 matches washed out..

Strong batting lineup...

Ash at 6 and mishy at 9. Umesh the night watchman

Opposition will be thinking Ashwin at 6 is a long tail. But hopefully he continues his good vain of form. England could be in for a shock.

Rahul is not back-up player.....once he is fit, he will be in the final IX,......he earned his spot

MSK prasad- Pandya is better and quicker than Binny

Finally some common sense prevails.

Finally the selectors are realizing the value of pace ... was Shardul too dropped for the same reason?

super team... just missing rahul... nothing else to worry about

the fact that it is gambhir who replaces rahul and not dhawan is indeed sweet

gambhir
vijay
pujara
kohli
rahane
ashwin
saha
pandya
jadeja
mishra
bhuveneshwar

even if we play shami-bhuvi and 3 spinners with no spot for pandya, our batting is still very decent on home grounds...

pujara and vijay need to make it count.. they need daddy centuries.
