Vijy
Ojha did badly in A and then got injured. Hence, was not considered. Sam doesn't kep regularly even for Kerala. Boils down to DK and Pappu, who are both doing fairly well. Unfortunately, both are terrible keepers. Link to comment
Sooda
Naman has been injured and is only just back from Injury for MP -think he has had just one FC game, so it was between PP and Kartik. Otherwise Naman, who imk sure played once before when Saha was injured, would be the keeper. Partiv has been batting well this season, and apparently the selectors wanted a lefty in the lineup. Really they had no choice Realistically, it was far too early for Pant who has had just half a (admittedly excellent) FC season. Let him get a few more years of cricket and A team series under his belt. I don't know how good Samsons keeping is, but apparently Partiv is regarded a better keeper than Dinesh G_B_ 1 Link to comment
mancalledsting
http://www.espncricinfo.com/india-v-england-2016-17/content/story/1067966.html Quote More than eight years after his previous Test match, and four years after his last international, wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel has earned a recall to India's Test team. At 17 years and 153 days, he became Test cricket's youngest wicketkeeper in 2002; now he will be the second-oldest member in the XI if no other change is made to the side that took field in Visakhapatnam. Parthiv came in because of an injury to first-choice keeper Wriddhiman Saha, who strained his left thigh during the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam. He will not play the third Test to avoid aggravating the injury. Link to comment

This bunch of selectors are even more hopeless than the Patil lot. Either they are lazy or have their pet projects if Gambhir & Patel have come back despite doing nothing to warrant selection. Can't be too long before Raina & Yuvraj are recycled as well. G_B_, SecondSlip, Bystander and 1 other 4 Link to comment

What a farce!!! Add his keeping to that. I'm sure Anderson and Broad must be licking their lips looking at pappu patel. Heck, Saha is even the better batsman! sandeep
I would have wanted to see Karthik instead of this guy if Ojha is injured. BUT the guy is only 31, its not as if he's ancient. Just because he's been around since he was 17 doesn't mean he's past his sell-by date. the guy is an immediate upgrade on the batting front as compared to Saha - something a lot of folks here were clamoring for. by all accounts, his keeping has improved since his early yips. Like someone mentioned - hard to forgive him for his lapses - he was plain horrible at times and cost us a series win in Australia!!! Is it his fault that Sanju Samson isn't considered ready with the gloves? Punting on Rishabh at such an early stage risks making a Duckett out of him, people forget that selectors ought to put players in best positions to succeed - its not just about picking names. Yeah, its not an exciting selection, its a stop-gap - but that's not the worst thing in the world. This sends a good message to the Dinesh Karthiks, Pankaj Singhs of the world - just because you got one opportunity and couldn't make it count, doesn't mean you are doomed to FC cricket forever - that's a good thing - it will keep the quality of domestic competition high. New naveli nineteen year olds will get their chance eventually, if they are good enough, in spite of fans' impatience. tweaker, G_B_, Unleashed and 1 other 4 Link to comment

Karthik never had shortage of talent, on talent alone he is far better batsman than Dhoni. Karthik will score double hundred in practice matches and as soon bright lights are turned on he becomes complete opposite. It is always about his head, he simply does not have nerves to handle the bright lights. He was so horrible that Indian team begged to have PP has his replacement.
