narenpande1 Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 (edited) Ashwin is without a doubt our MVP in tests. By far. He ends up bowling a heck lot more than the next most used bowler in tests. We have an extremely long season ahead. Hope management does not play Ashwin for any of the ODIS or T20s. He is too precious and must be used judiciously to avoid injury. We can manage without him in ODIs. But just imagine India without him in Home tests. Edited December 9, 2016 by narenpande1 diga and velu 2
kosingh Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 I really dont think spinners need be saved for certain formats to avoid injury.

There is wear and tear for sure...he is the bulwark of India's domination at home requiring him to bowl an inordinately high number of overs. Also, it saves up his hunger to perform.
express bowling Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Both Ashwin and Shami should not play bilateral ODIs and T20Is ......unless they are preparing for the World Cups....or there are no test matches around that time. We have decent backups for both in LOIs nowadays......in Mishra and Bhuvi. Vilander, sandeep, Lannister and 1 other 4
Cricketics Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 No, we need him in Odi's. He isn't a fast bowler who is required some rest. Good spin bowlers can play until they are 38-39 provided they do not lose their skill. Ashwin can last that long. Even if he stop making runs, as long as he can be close to what he is bowling currently, I would love for him to be part of team India in all formats for next 6-7 years.
BeautifulGame Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 No Despite the delusion in ICF generally , Odis are just as important as tests and winning CT and world cup is far more important . Yes rest and rotate him at times in bilateral series from time to time (like we did against Kiwis ) when have long test series ahead ,but suggestions of saving him only for tests is absurd . Ankit_sharma03 Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 There is already news that all main test bowlers will be rested for LOI against ENG Vilander 1

vishalvirsingh Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Yes Ashwin should only play Tests. Secondly Jayant yadav's bowling was AVERAGE.. I have been saying that MISHRA is a better bowler that jayant. jayant's bowling is OK but no major shakes..no major turn, very simple bowling action and easy to be read by a batsman- he is not good enuf to become a regular bowler...he has to improve.
SUMO Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 I want 20-25 ODIs ... 10-12 tests and 0-3 T20s per year IPL is a 2 month torcher for me miss those days when we used to drain foreign teams in chennai mumbai in the heat of april may june sandeep 1
Jimmy Cliff Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Should only play Tests and ICC events for India. No need to waste him in JAMODIs. Detonator 1

For the most part - play those once in a while by choice if he wants to work on his rhythm or whatever... And the same goes for Shami too. Problem is, no cricketer in India will want to be categorized as a test-only player - that will restrict their earning power big-time - look at Pujara. Che's case is a little different as he can't get an IPL gig at the moment. Ashwin will be first choice for his IPL side so his earning power wouldn't be impacted as much.
Forever Indian Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 If Ashwin is continued to bat at no.6 then he needs to be rested from bilateral ODI series. It is very difficult for someone as a test allrounder in all formats. express bowling 1
Texan Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 In the current season, he should definitely not play Tests. It is too hectic and we want to preserve him for Tests. In relatively lighter seasons, he could play ODIs. His ODI record is not as phenomenal as his Test record anyway, so we can easily play a Mishra in his place or a Jayant.
Vijy Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Yes, it would be more suitable if he doesn't play ODIs - not that critical to India's success. Play some new spinner like Kuldeep there.
Vilander Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Decision should be based on fitness and form, not playing for long could mean he is not improving. But manage workload of Shami and Ashwin for sure.

Like Dhoni during the peak days when he used to play all 3 formats, captain and keep in them.
