Bumrah rested from LOIs in Aus and NZ, Siraj called for ODIs, Kaul for NZ T20s

Recommended Posts

India have decided to rest

Jasprit Bumrah for the forthcoming ODI series in Australia and the New Zealand tour that comprises five ODIs and three T20Is in January-February. Mohammed Siraj was named Bumrah's replacement for those series while Siddarth Kaul was added to the squad for the T20I series in New Zealand next month.

ODI squad for Australia and New Zealand: Virat Kohli (capt), Rohit Sharma (vice-capt), KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Ambati Rayudu, Dinesh Karthik, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni (WK), Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Siraj, Khaleel Ahmed, Mohammed Shami

T20I squad for New Zealand: Virat Kohli (capt), Rohit Sharma (vice-capt), KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni (WK), Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Siraj, Khaleel Ahmed, Siddarth Kaul

Kaul is our back up pacer!! Siraj perhaps picked for the wrong format again.

While they made changes to the team, should have added Pant in these squads as well :(

Checked Siraj's List A record - 31 matches, 56 wickets@23, with a ER of 5.5 and SR of 25.1

Not too bad actually. T20s look to be his weakest suit and thankfully he has not been picked for those. Could still do relatively better in ODIs.

That's a good bowling unit

Just like the Test Matches some fresh blood will improve the batting and we will see a much stronger side.

However whether that will happen before the World Cup is the big question.

Siraj picked for T20 also, see squad list in OP.

This pathetic trundling university graduate kaul keeps getting chances .

Siraj again picked for wrong format, isn't cut out for odis, gives lot of width and buckle under pressure.

Mayank looked in great touch and confidence should have been there in place of kl Rahul.

Our pace attack will be Bhuvi, Shami and Khaleel and Siraj maybe backup in case one of these fails. Pitches are likely to be very flat so they may go with 2 spinners and Pandya so only 2 pacers may play

Wah re chewt selectors, keep giving moments of buffoonery

Siraj when was setting world on fire wasn't getting picked even in the squad

Now he is been picked for lois, that too in small parks of NZ,where they will shatter his remaining confidence by mauling him to dust,

At least they spared us by not picking him in t20s

Well Kaul seems to be fulfilling the trundler quota, when we have zaleel in the ranks

So when Siraj does well in the 4-day format, they select him for shorter formats? Worst bunch of selectors I have seen. We lose half of the matches because of these phukers and the other half because of Kohli-Shastri combo when they decide final X1. What a time to be alive.

And where is Manish Pandey who scored 3 consecutive centuries against Australia A?

And y they keep sticking with rahul when he clearly seems out of form atleast he could have gone back to domestic rather than warming bench

By the way if kl Rahul somehow manages to find place in the squad it will only add to his humiliation, more memes will be circulated by his name than the runs he scored.

I know its different format but he looked shattered, should have been sent  to domestics to get some basics right, offstump game especially. Only domestic cricket can stop Rahul from becoming hahahul.

Aggarwal has done well and deserves his chance over Rahul but again shouldn't expect any sense from msk.

Siraj may not be ideal for LOIs ... but at least Chahar, Kaul  and Co. have not been selected for ODIs.  That is a relief.

Great decision to pick Siraj and rest bumrah...

Khaleel bhuvi n hardik will be our pacers...Siraj may get a chance ahead of one of khaleel or bhuvi in one of the matches.

Shammi may be rested till he is

Kohli should have been rested atleast for the NZ leg.

Could have played the 3 ODIs against Australia and gone home.

It's better to rest players from Australian ODIs. They are playing a weak side. We won't be able to say anything about our combination . NZ are likely to play full strength do it will be a better test .

Flying back and coming again means little rest.

Finish the Aussie tour and get at a stretch break.

Yeah that's true. Maybe they can just send in extra players? Let the main players be part of squad and just play 3 ODIs Vs NZ and then head back. We have to be a little more creative considering these ridiculous schedules I suppose. The team has been playing cricket non stop.

International cricket is international cricket.

Picking siraj will give him confidence.

Also at least with new ball we can see how penetrative he is.

A good bowler in test will do well at least in first 10 overs or show his class

this is great news that siraj has replaced Sid Kaul and deeepak chahar in ODI line up.

in t20..Siraj or any genuine fast bowler except bumrah is not too good but good to rest bumrah and give him good rest as I think India will win ODI and T20 series.

the only option for Australia to win is if they prepare FAST tracks as Kuldeep and Chahal will cook them if it Spins even a little.

if it's a fast track, India will be forced to play only 1 spinner.

Good job to bring siraj.I'm sure trundler khaleel will be tonked, then we can check out siraj in his place.

i have hopes that Khaleel also get back to his faster days .... let's see. he is trying to be shrewd and clever while he bowls but he is trying to loose pace and get more control, hope he gets back his pace. let's see.

strengths of Siraj-

fast pace

gets great bounce.

Is a bowler who looks good for test cricket so is a complete pace bowler in the lines of Shammi so if he suceeds a bit , he can be fast tracked into tests to replace Umesh.

He seems a powerful bowler not like khaleel who seems to lack STAMINA and Pace.

why I hate SID kaul and bhuvi type trundlers....

There fast bouncers are normally Slow bouncers so they actually don't bowl BOUNCERS.

They are Skilled and so skilled that they always try to use their Skills , bhuvi is so experienced , he can out do the batsman , other trundlers like chahar , kaul , khaleel , they also try to cheat the batsman but batting is a mind game , if batsman is scared of the bowler that bumrah is bombing them or shammi is hitting their head , batsman will be on the defensive. batsman attack trundlers.

as soon as batsman gets Positive and confident any bowler can be hit upon, with trundlers batsman never get the feeling of scared and they attack them on the front foot, where as against shammi, bumrah and even against the bounce bowler ishant batsman are at the back foot.

both Squads are VERY Strong.

even that Short kedar Jadhav is an Allrounder. so we have jaddu, hardik, kedar as all rounders in odi and krunnal in t20.

Coach Ravi Shastri reveals why Rishabh Pant not part of ODI against Australia and New Zealand

“We have asked him to go back because he has been playing non-stop cricket. I think he needs a break for a couple of weeks and then join the India A team,” the head coach said.

“He has been asked to do a specific job, to get into the habit of finishing off matches and he will be right there in the mix,” he added.

Chief national selector MSK Prasad had also earlier said that Pant would still be a part of India’s World Cup plans. He has been excluded from the ODI squads to be fresh and recover from niggles.

Looks like bcci and TM are not banking on msd's famed talents and want a back up .....

So a 21 year old and fit Pant needs rest  ... but a 30 year old injured Kohli, playing all 3 formats,  can play.

The excuses we hear  to protect the Great Grey Beard  !!     :phehe:
