What Would be your plan of action for Rishabh pant - Drop or Persist

Recommended Posts

With Every passing failure pant is making his life difficult. Kohli has no patience for youngsters n janta is senti for dhoni , media always looks to target someone so the pressure on pant is mounting every game. Its now showing on his face that his confidence is low.

How would you go in Regards to it our keeping slot

  1. Persist with Pant
  2. Make Rahul keep
  3. Give Samson a chance
  4. Try kishen
  5. Bring Back DK

Ill back him for 2 more series even if he falls in all games. We can also play samson in all games as batsman. We shud rest one among kohli n rohit which will allow Samson n pant to play. Dhawan shud be dropped , had dhawan been dropped this series we wud have seen a bit of samson.

If pant fails and samson scores , we have the answer.

If both fails, drop pant and give samson a few more games n get in kishen

Dk shud be last option, he knws how international cricket works so he can give a series or two before

Ideally Pant should be the first choice keeper but looks like either he has hit a rough patch due to the mental pressure or he is just going through a bad form. For now he needs backing  If he fails in the next 2 series it will be a double edged sword because he has experience in Aus conditions but if he is out of form it will be a huge risk.

Kishan at this point will struggle against pace and bounce from what I have seen. He needs to be eased in while he works on his technique against short balls.

While Samson and Rahul can be an option and bat in the top order, their keeping in those conditions might be a problem and you can’t have a poor keeper in any format.

At this point it is Pant but if he doesn’t deliver the only option for WT20 is DK.

Kishan might be ready for the following WT20 which is in India if obviously Pant still hasn’t recovered by then.

I have a fear that what I said might be replicated by bringing back MSD instead of any of those names giving the whole experience excuse :fear1:

He is not in good space right now.  That pointless wild cross batted heave ho reflected his state of mind right now.  Keeping and playing an aggressor role is a bit too much for him at this point. He is not a fully finished article yet. He needs to play any cricket he can. First class, List A, domestic T20 where he can express himself without pressure.

Its TM job now...they have put him under pressure by giving so many public statement n dropping him in a format where he was making runs.

Rohit on other hand handled this so better by telling everyone just leave him alone for a while.

In Tests he is bound to come back.  But in limited overs he has competition. So heat will be on. Don't think leaving him alone or keeping in focus makes any difference as he will be forced to some role or the other in every single match Either keeping or stumping or helping with review or finishing. If he wants to silence everyone he has to produce a match winning knock. Fans can be fickle. They  will start rallying behind him.

Open with Pant, and play Samson at 3/4 in the next series. If Pant fails again and Samson does well, we have our answer. He doesn't seem to be in good mind space now, give him more confidence by backing him at the opening spot, but another series of failure means he goes back to domestics for another season for his own good

Id also like to throw DK in the mix for lower order batting in the WI series. We don't have many players that can come in strike from ball one. DK at six and Hardik at 7 gives a strong lower middle order.

I think he should be given a break from LOI and keep continuing in Test cricket to regain his confidence. Once he is settled well in Test cricket he can be brought back to LOI. For now Samson can be given chance in t20s but he should not be played lower than no. 3 position.

If it's a 28 year old with 5 years of experience, you would persist since he knows how to comeback to form..Pant has very little experience, has giant shoes to fill and a cunning fox like TM waiting for him to fail.. it's better that he is dropped..regains his mojo and comes back with a bang.. to his luck all his replacements are inconsistent as well.
