  1. 1. Who besides Hardik is the best utility player?

Pandya is now among the best LOI batsmen in India (and its biggest entertainer). He is a brilliant fielder and can bowl at pace too. An unique combination for an Indian cricketer. He could be targeting #4-5 position in future .... Close to Pandya is Jadeja (esp. in ODIs), who is a better bowler. Good for #6-8

From the list, it is Krunal, who has won a few MoMs. And a good fielder too. Good for #6-8 .... Sundar is a bad fielder so loses some points but a contender if he can bat, bowl and field well .... Have heard that Axar has improved with the bat .... Rana and Jaiswal if they can bowl well can be considered as options too

Dube is probably not in consideration at the moment. Rest are mainly bowlers, who would need to find a place as bowlers first. If they bat well (#8-11), it is a bonus. :dontknow:

^ good point on Axar. His bowling was always tight in fact better than Jadeja in LOIs and even though he is the definition of a hack with the bat he was never selfish like Jadeja, always plays his shots so if he improved his batting he can be a good Option. His fielding though is mediocre but serviceable

India is such a frustrating team, cannot believe none of our top order batsmen can bowl a little bit in order to accommodate another batsmen in the lineup.

Back in the day, there was Tendulkar and Ganguly where "useful" bowlers, Dravid could keep as well. Sehwag could also bowl his arm over. Of course Yuvraj as well, I think even Raina bowled. Dhoni was rarely if ever used, but could bowl as well.

If I am not mistake, all of Tendulkar, Ganguly and Sehwag have won MoM for their bowling alone.

India need to look at more 3D players lol.

You missed this guy....has won us a couple of matches with both bat/ball and someone whose contribution in the Indo-Pak WC match is downplayed, nervous moments that day with rain forecast (DL) and Bhuvi out. I want him to be in the scheme of things for next year's Eng test tour.

Image result for vijay shankar

From among the options Deepak Chahar, methinks he can be a valuable asset in the T20 team, can be a better version of Bhuvi.

Also Sundar has potential, his batting is being underutilized by this TM but age on his side, he is what, 19?

C Gautam has shown he can both bat and bowl.He should be considered instead of giving chances to same set of players again and again

Its K Gautham... he is a hit or a miss player. Not sure of his consistency and he is already 30+

As far as Test cricket is concerned I think D Chahar would be massive upgrade over Bhuvi as he is genuine swing bowler & may help us win a Test series in Eng & his batting is decent. In LO Nitish Rana perhaps bowls good left arm spin.  Hopefully KKR allows him to bat inside Top 4 with Uthappa gone.  Last year's knock vs RCB was insane almost matched Russell in hitting.

U are either a utility player or a match winner and hardik is a match winner

for me utility players are - jaddu, axar, sundar, krunal

Guys like shankar, dube, deepak chahar, thakur are specialist with extra skills , there utility wont be there in every or atleast high number of games.

Now it depends on format n conditions

  • If pitches turn jadeja is a match winner
  • in t20 krunal is good, better then jaddu in t20s for sure
  • Axar has improved his batting but how much remains to be seen
  • Sundar good for t20s

Sundar's career has most probably been derailed already. He has been labelled a bowler which he clearly isnt. His stronger suit which was batting has taken a hit due to him being treated as a bowler but he isn't skilled enough to be a bowler. He is a part time bowler. Can he actually become a real bowler is the real question? Even TN hardly bats him up the order. An opening bat is being turned into a utility cricketer just because he had some success in his maiden IPL with the ball.

Jadeja and Vijay Shankar. I hate to say this but that is all the depth we got as far as all rounders considered. Just plain pathetic.

I think we should groom Shankar as he looked technically better than the so called modern legend brat when he was in New Zealand last time before world cup.

In places like England and New Zealand, Shankar becomes a force to reckon with just like CdG.

We should of course look beyond him for T20s and ODIs elsewhere.

Shankar is technically more solid then many of our batsman but a player is good if used at right place. Shankar game is fine for 4-5 position but they are already taken. The lower u push him it doesnt suit his game.
