rtmohanlal Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 1 Kohli can't chase & finish with huge mammoth scores at towering str: rates in each & every single game he is playing. After all he is also human. He played 2 chasing knocks in 2 immediate matches before. So he is bound to fail in one match or other. That happend in the final against a quality bowling attack chasing a huge score. So all in all that is not the problem because he avg:ed over 100 in the tournament despite failing in the final. 2. Not with his reputation as a clutch player. This because he has performed in world20s,he has brilliant knocks in champions trophy including finals ,and has chased down mammoth totals.Just need to to do a bit more in world cups & tournament finals. That is all. 3.What Kohli needed to do was to built a platform immediately after Rohit fell early.I mean he needed to be lot cautious, play out a few dot balls in the process and avoiding risks, needed to score some 35 runs of 50 balls before getting out. Then he could have repaired the early loss of Rohit & along with Dhwan could have took the score to say some 65 for 1 in the first 15 overs before getting out. This was the need of the hour. Had he done just that before getting out, the others who followed could have built on from where he stopped.Keep in mind this was just what he did in that 2011 world cup final after the immediate loss of Sehwag & Sachin. Here he got out soon after Rohit & the game ended then & there. And this was most felt when Hardik was going blazing with no one to give adequate support. It was this element with which I was most disappointed w.r.t Kohli on that day.Scoring a risk free ,casual low str: rate 35 or so score that would have got the team back on track. Despite playing so much , he didn't show the sense to do that . Your thoughts.
Temujin Khaghan Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Bowling kedar jadav for a 3rd over irritated me. velu, Unstable Joe and sandeep 3
Cricketics Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 -That he did not try Jadhav in the middle. I am not sure if Jadhab would have turned the game around like he did against Bangladesh but he deserved few overs after bowling well earlier when both premier spinners were leaking runs. - That he chose to field first. - That he got out early after being dropped the ball before. Should have put price on his wicket and played a more straight bat shot to the swinging ball as he had already edged one the previous delivery. Unstable Joe, ThePhenomenal1 and veer 3

Not bowling Jadhav earlier in the game was also a mistake. I don't think his batting approach can be faulted too much - batsmen sometimes get out - it happens. mishra 1

He got out playing a shot that would normally fetch him one or two and nobody would question. Amir's left arm angle and swing did him in. All three of our top order's wickets were due to good bowling so it's not something that was avoidable.
kosingh Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 His batting was atypically bad, but his captaincy was typically bad. sandeep 1

He is conservative these days a lot but wasn't on the final day and hence got out early, even though he gets lot of runs playing the same shot. Once the swing dies, he can play that shot more, but right at the start when he had just played and knickes one and survived, he should have looked to play a more steaight bat shot towards mid on and not mid wicket or square leg which he actually did.

It's easier to say that in hindsight but it wasn't a particularly risky shot to play. An outside edge off a leg side flick doesn't usually carry all the way to point.
Laaloo Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Not selecting your best odi bowler and keep selecting ashwin even though he failed badly against bangla mishra, velu, express bowling and 1 other 4
maniac Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 (edited) I am still haunted by his smile to Amir when he got beat..Not only was he out after a few deliveries but When he gave him a send off I took it as a personal fk off lol.....I almost feel its personal with amir from now on even though he was only doing his job Edited June 20, 2017 by maniac Bigg Brother, mishra, ThePhenomenal1 and 4 others 7
Lannister Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Not backing Shami and Yadav, in place of the spinners, especially after how they performed in the warmup games. I believe Yadav has took 4 wickets against Pak in the group stage. I seriously hope he learns from this experience, and not make the same mistakes. mishra 1
NameGoesHere Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 (edited) From the little I saw on TV (and thus could be completely wrong) (a) Letting the game drift after Bumrah's no ball to Fakhar Zaman. It seemed to me that the body language of Indian players post that incident was a little off, and in any case I would expect my captain to raise the intensity, and lift morale in the aftermath. Instead I thought Bumrah became looser in his approach, and we seemed to go flat. (b) Keeping Bhuvi and Bumrah for the last. I would have gone with Bhuv/ Bumrah them in the middle overs to shake things up, instead of persisting with Ashwin and Jadeja. I would have gambled on our pacers forcing the Pakistani bats to make mistakes and get wickets. Of course Ashwin and Jaddu would have to come in later, but at least we would have tried. I am not including selection matters, but what Kohli did on the field as captain. Edited June 20, 2017 by NameGoesHere

This surprised me the most.. he didnt respect the opposition bowler. He should have waited it out.. He did it in T20 game in Asia cup but not in ODI.. I guess occasion got better of him i think.

None of these . Promoting buddy culture by rooting for grand old uncles in team . Friendship should be outside the cricket selection . As a leader your whole objective should be to have the best team purely on merit and not on bhaichara ThePhenomenal1 1
bleaf27 Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Could probably write a thesis on this but I'll save myself the agony and my fingers from writing 100 pages on his moronic captaincy
King Tendulkar Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Just wish after first drop he had blocked for 10 balls and survived . If done that he would have seen us home express bowling 1

All three were bad on the big day when they had approached the batting totally differently in the games before leading up to the finals.
