Stuge Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 (edited) India spinner Ravindra Jadeja has been suspended from the third and final Test of the series against Sri Lanka after accumulating six demerit points over a 24 month period. Jadeja had come into the Colombo Test with three demerit points, slapped on him for running on the pitch in Indore in October 2016. Now at the SSC, the ICC have penalised him further after an incident in the 58th over of the Sri Lankan second innings. Jadeja had fielded the ball off his own bowling and then thrown it a the batsman Dimuth Karunaratne "in a dangerous manner" according to the on-field umpires Rod Tucker and Bruce Oxenford. This was in breach of article 2.2.8 of the player's code of conduct which deals with "throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match". Jadeja admitted to the offence and accepted his sanction by match referee Richie Richardson. putrevus Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 When ICC bans any player from England and Australia then we will believe this nonsense. How many demerit point should Steve Smith receive for openly asking dressing room for help with DRS. How has he not received any demerit points. Sidhoni, express bowling, sandeep and 5 others 4 4
Gollum Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 ICC being ICC, white man's world. If same standards apply to England and Australia, guys like Stokes, Anderson, Smith and Starc will sit out half the time. Chalo koi baat nahee, will get to watch Kuldeep bowl now. WC2011INDIA and JaFanatic 1 1
kubrickian Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Too harsh. Can BCCI do anything about it ? Most spineless board ever.

philcric Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Haven't seen the incident. May be harsh on Jaddu. But it's not too bad for India in the larger picture. It would give Kuldeep a game. Good to give games to Kuldeep and Pandya as much as we can. They could play a part in the overseas series of SA, Eng and Aus. express bowling 1
Pollack Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 (edited) Great opportunity for Kuldeep to take 10fer atleast and make himself undropable. But honestly he would still be dropped. Kuldeep is not going to be inducted in team completely till India (along with Ashwin and Jadeja) gets its customary spanking in one of the away tours. Edited August 6, 2017 by Pollack CommonMan 1
CoverDrive Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 This is some really random system. Wonder if jadeja knew he was one incident away from suspension. Imagine this happening in a decider test in a big series
cowboysfan Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 i think they would have rested Ash for the final test, he looked haggard in the 2nd inning .

Sandeep99 Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Haven't seen the incident so can't comment about it. But this was the best time Jadeja could have got the ban. Kohli was not going to drop him but now he can get the much needed rest and we can see a direct shootout between Ashwin and Kuldeep for the second spinner slot in the 3rd test. Ankit_sharma03 1
express bowling Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 I hope our coach is keeping tab of how may demerit points each player has accumulated. When the number is near ban then it is better to be careful before important tests for that player..... and maybe have a transgression in a low importance series before the last test.
Ankit_sharma03 Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 blessing in disguise, good things always happens in indian cricket by accident only JaFanatic 1
chewy Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 This system will only make test cricket more docile, trying to take character out it, and hence more boring. express bowling and Ankit_sharma03 2

Throwing ball randomly at batsman makes it docile? How many times Gavaskar would criticize habit of Indian fielders just throwing ball without any reason. Sometimes it results in overthrows and extra runs and good fielders have done it earlier.

Mosher Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 Got this video from Reddit. Root didn't get any demerit points for this. * ICC. https://streamable.com/j5kv5 puneet28, chewy, Under_Score and 5 others 6 2
