coffee_rules
Hard to please Indians, damned if you do, damned if you don't. I am pretty sure some punjabi/bengali cricketer had achieved a WC, albeit u19, they would be hailed as a supreme force of change. Nobody is claiming he made these young players, they would be pretty good at their skill to get selected among the 1000s of aspiring players. But, definitely, as a coach , he can shape them, their temperment and to keep a level head, especially when there was a IPL auction stupidly scheduled in the middle of a WC to distract these teenagers. Just to be around them itself would be inspiring to these young minds and Dravid has the perfect image for somebody to look up to. Look at the expression of the one in the cap ...amazing Edited February 3, 2018 by coffee_rules Cricketics and beetle 2 Link to comment

Lannister
Those kids are very lucky to have someone like Dravid supporting them. If it was any other person in his shoes, like Ravi Shastri, he would've brought his regional bias and nepotism thus corrupting the very team. beetle and Forever Indian 2 Link to comment

mancalledsting
The biggest contributors are: Sunil Gavaskar: gave belief to a nation that Indians could be the best in the world at a sport Kapil Dev: Influenced subsequent generations of seam bowling, dynamic fielding and explosive batting with his style of play. Also promoted fearless cricket. Sachin: again, one of the best in the world and in the conversation for GOAT. Inspired so many cricketers of modern generation that they could be great. Dravid: excellent test player, excellent ODI player (before World Cup 2007), took the wicket keeping gloves for the team, showed Indian batsmen how to bat overseas, helped development of A team players like Hardik and of course guided U19 to WC victory. Who made the biggest contribution is debatable but there is no argument that Dravid sir contributed at the greatest number of different levels e.g. test, ODI, WK, A-tour development, U19 development. He'll be given 50 lakhs for his work, could easily make that money doing nothing and sitting on advisory committees drinking cups of tea. Rather than going through the grind of touring during middle age. We are lucky he volunteeered for the job and not someone like Bharat Arun. Edited February 3, 2018 by mancalledsting Link to comment

I think we are going overboard here...I rest my case. One guy is doing something sincerely and you pick on him.... If that is your yardstick, then why not any Indian greats did anything remotely like what you said......list includes sachin, ganguly, gavasakar, kapil dev and many more.... Of all the Indian stars, Dravid's off-field contribution to indian cricket is highest... Shunya 1 Link to comment

Texy
Dravid could've sat at home, gotten fat off the millions he made and had an awesome retirement life...but he has chosen to work w/ U19 team...Never mind that this team just won the WC but even if they didn't...you've got to admire that work ethic of Dravid. He doesn't need to do jackshit...but he still wakes up every day and goes to work like some newcomer trying to make it. Edited February 3, 2018 by Texy adi B 1 Link to comment

Straight Drive
A coach has a very important role. He can make or break a team. The environment he creates at net sessions, the thoughtfulness and creativity at nets sessions, the discipline and the role model attributes that are there for his pupils to follow all contribute in increasing the probability of success. Paras Mhambrey and support staff have also played their roles well as we see the bowlers have also done well. Link to comment
