This is why people need to watch before making posts. He has a  really tight defense. Every single match he played the first 40, 50 balls defensively. Even in Gabba he was 50 of 100 balls. Here, he was 37 in 63 balls before he scored 64 of next 55 balls.

 

He played the entire before lunch and then post lunch session defensively. He decided to attack just before new ball was due and the  with new ball to score quick runs after he was settled

 

It's a masterclass on how to score unlike just defending which takes team no where or just taking risk from ball 1

Dhoni had 14 innings of 80+ scores in his career of 90 tests.. Pant already has 8 such innings in just 20 tests and in very tough conditions against tougher opponents

For that they need to score 250. They have just crossed 200 once (a score of 205 again in first innings) after the first match first innings on a flat pitch. They can only dream of scoring 250 on day 3, 3rd innings, on this pitch

looks to me kohli is the type who is brutal to juniors but will keep match winners once they have proven. in anycase, Pant is a must in test matches anyway. He needs to find a way into the LOI formats. Hopefully becoming a dad will calm Kohli down to acceptable levels

Pant was leaving and watching deliveries very well

He has beoken the code of playing in tests just like Sehwag, Gilchrist

Just needs calm and composure from TM on him for lois ,one hell of a player ,needs backing

You need to back guys like him even if they fail 10 -15 games straightaway

We waste games on iyer,rayudu but show our impatience on Pant,Gill,Shaw etsame is the case with bowlers like Kuldeep,Saini, Siraj, Prasidh

there's plenty of difference. pant may look ugly when he hoicks unnecessarily, but his fundamentals are sound. his defense today in the first 90 balls was better than most of our so-called batsmen.

Pant is great but his scoop is so jarring. It's not fetching him lots of runs, half the time he falls over.
