What will be target India should set for Australia?

Lead is around 165 with 7 wickets in hand. Ball turning for lyon big time from foot marks created by seamers. 2 days of play day to go but ofcourse rain need to be considered.

 

What sort of score India would like to set for Aussies from where:

 

A) They cant lose the game.

B) Enough time to take 10 Aust wickets.

 

Pls Note, Australia bats deep and literally has no tail.

the highest 4th innings score at Adelaide in the last 18 years has been 310 or so, i belive. As such, I don't see an India declaration coming - IF we are at that stage - without the lead passing 350.

Noooooooo...drawing this game will be as bad as losing. This is our game for taking and I hope we dont screw it up. With Perth next, we will be going to boxing day test 1- 1 if we win here.

more than score I think on this pitch especially the aim need to be to bat out another 60 overs. Will give Australia (check the weather and adjust) 120 overs to bat late into day 4 and 5.

I would be cursing Kohli and our bowlers if aussies survive 4 sessions. Win is biproduct. Plan should be to bat as close to tea as possible. Rain can still spoil everything

300 should be enough, getting more is great. Aus hasn't chased 200 successfully at this venue in the last 100 years. Pitch isn't very bad but their batting line up is poor compared to their past.

Don't see Aus chasing 250+ here, even if they had Warner and Smith. Ashwin was getting turn on day 2 itself. Also the forecast says cloudy weather for the next 2 days, with no rain. That will surely help the seamers.

 

The key for India is to somehow bat till tea and get close to 350.

There is no question of declaring. We should negotiate 1st session and see how things go from there.i doubt whether ind can reach 300, but if we do, we should win.

I reckon we should bat at least till tea tomorrow and try to score around 150 more. This will give Aussies 4 sessions to chase and we will have decent chance to defend. Weather is good for next two days.

Anything more than 275 is impossible to chase. Batting is getting tougher by the day. But India needs to set 350 and declare before  tea.
