kubrickian
Its not a question of averages alone. At times, he couldnt contribute much in tests with the bat which is needed of an all rounder. He used to play too many shots and also had technical weakness against fast bowling. Most of his knocks were cameos where he used to throw the bat around. He is much more capable than that. But he is improving and hopefully gets even better. Link to comment
R!TTER
If you've actually seen him play you wouldn't be saying that He was the difference between Ind vs SA 2015, first innings Mohali & then Delhi, one of the key differences vs England 2016, won us the series vs Oz in 2017 & did fairly well away in 2018 as well. If there's one batter who's out-batted him in critical junctures, especially home, it is Pujara not even Kohli. Yes he could've done better at times but then if he's doing the job of your top 6 batters or top 2 bowler every time, then WTH are the rest of them in the team for? bahubali 1 Link to comment

But he is improving and hopefully gets even better. the big problem with Jadeja has been that by the time he gets well settled he would be forced to slog or accelerate for the sake of the team cause there by unnecessarily forcing him to throw away his wkt:. And Jadeja deserves a lot more than that. I can recall 3 such knocks here itself. 2 80+ knocks in ENG & AUS respectively and the 58 in this match. All these 3 abroad knocks , he could have converted into 100s otherwise , because he is a genuine batsman going by his domestic track record . It is so unfair on such a player(he already is a great bowler) to make him throw his wkt: away like that. If used in TOP 6, I am sure he can be lot more effective as a batsman. Link to comment

Perhaps, can't say that without trying him out at 6 though with Pant in the side that's not necessary even in India. Ashwin's been super lazy though, over the last 4 years, take WI out he's been outperformed by Jadeja in nearly every series home & away. It's not even a contest against the top sides, Jadeja has also played super critical knocks against SA, Eng, Oz while "Ash" has had the excuse of hip injuries & what not!
