Yesterday's loss highlights a bigger issue in our white ball cricket.

What the above shows is a damning indictment of our inflexible approach to white ball cricket. The World Cup debacle was always on the cards. India's risk free approach in the first ten overs while batting and the lack of depth in the lineup was resulting in slow starts and par scores at best. The lack of an extra fast bowler too limited us severely at the World Cup which led to us crashing out in the semis. Looks like we are repeating the same mistakes. Insanity is...

Which directly leads to my 2nd point - The era of multi-format players is well and truly over. This is not just about India though. England is probably the best example . Bairstow found unprecedented success as a white ball opener by going hard at the ball and making contact early. Not surprising that this method trickled into his test batting as well. The result? Two spectacularly poor seasons in red ball cricket that led to his axing. Root has faced similar issues. Trying players in both red ball and white ball cricket has led to English batting averages in tests in 2019 being the worst since the 60's.   Smith is a monster in test cricket but in terms of impact he doesn't even make it on merit in the  OZ T20 side.

We need different squads, captains and approaches for each format. Conservative cricket is fine for test cricket but in white ball cricket , you need more intent to win crucial matches - which we lacked at the world cup and yesterday as well and the right players who have been given the license to execute that without being castigated for it (Pant)

Every series we loose a game in t20s...its ok . Nothing to over react

Our team has never enjoyed playing on such sticky pitches

This is not just about yesterday. If you read that link, our batsmen actually negotiated the conditions better than BD batsmen but shelved their attacking instincts whereas BD won because of their intent. Intent is very important in modern white ball cricket.

coz we dnt enjoy such pitches, our batsman likes the ball coming on bat .....dhawan was stepping down again n agian but wasnt getting the timing. Iyer showed intent but he was mistiming many of them as well

Earler we had guys like dhawan, dhoni, jadeja who were misfits in t20....atleast now we hve a better set of players

The attack only happened when Shreyas Iyer walked in. He scored at Sr of 169.

Our LOI cricket has not evolved at all in all these years. Kohli did try KulCha for 18 months, and despite them succeeding so well, lost confidence in them just before the WC. And now Kuldeep is out of all formats and we have gone back to defensive finger spinners. Truly a bizarre decision to destroy your premium LLOI spin twins like that.

For T20s, among seamers, only Bumrah has been decent for us. Shami, Umesh, Ishant  have had a run and are not great either.. Saini is injured, else he would have played. Chahar is a like to like replacement for Bhuvi and has been decent with the new ball. Siraj is not a T20 bowler. Leaves us with Khaleel, who is clearly struggling. Tries too many things and seems unsure of his strengths.

We could actually use the upcoming series vs WI and SL to try out a couple more of them - particularly Mavi and Avesh. Only risk is they haven;' bowled much in T20s and could lose their confidence if things do not go well.

The format where intent should never be forced on players whose style is to grind down the opposition - Kohli did just that and ended up f**king a performing opening partnership of vijay & Rahul, and left his key no. 3 bat insecure. In LOIs, the same captain prefers a defensive save wicket upfront strategy and then staggeringly packs his middle order with non-explosive batters. A game changer like Pant has been reined in and his self-belief broken. KL Rahul stroked an awesome 100 in a T20 in Eng last year batting at 3...and now isn't even a guaranteed starter in T20s.

India's white ball team strentgh is alarming tbh and captain doofus and bewda are living in fool's paradise to even recognise this as a problem.

Our current t20 side is poor ,cricketers like krunal, khaleel, are not fit enough to even represent Bangladesh.

Look at our bowling line up ,we dont play the right bowlers when the main bowlers are given rest ,instead we choose players like khaleel, krunal who are no where close to intl material .

Rohit and dhawan are also old and dont warrant a  place in the side ,it should be youngsters

Who are players in domestic setup who are big hitters, I have lot of issue with yesterday's bowling lineup.

But there are no talented hitters in domestic cricket. Guys like Gill, Shaw and all other youngsters are not suited for either no4 or T20s.Similarly there are no great middle order bats for test cricket in domestic setup.

Not a big issue losing an odd T20 match. But yes nub of the issue with this side is players play with a slightly selfish and conservative approach. This TM doesn't encourage mavericks. Someone like Jason Roy or Maxwell will be destroyed in this regime. Dhawan has always been ordinary in T20s, he takes the ODI approach and is adored by this TM. Rohit is same but he is a more versatile hitter, so he is an asset.

Infact take a look at the transformation of KL Rahul, he has modified his game in recent times to be more careful rather than freewheeling like he was may be 2 years earlier. Similarly, Pant has been castigated enough now to shun his innovative shots to be more wary and take singles/doubles(classic Dhoni in T20s lol).

Yesterday, only Iyer was playing the match like the way it should been played but I am pretty sure he will also be systematically modified. Infact even the so called cricket experts from India have no idea about T20 cricket it seems as for them yesterday Iyer was playing a shot a ball.

When it comes to bowling, I could not deduce what the plan is. Too many ordinary all rounders and run of the mill seamers.

Edit : Only Indian test cricket is worth wasting your time on at the moment.

OP is right, India has to change the way they approach LOI and t20s. Yesterday is  prime example, they loaded up with bits and pieces players in an effort to lengthen batting lineup but they never took advantage of it.

Indian top three is the issue here, All the three players take time in getting started, their approach is same for both t20s and odis. Kohli is there to hold one end up and rotate strike, they need to load the team with batsmen who can go for their shots from ball one.

Who are those batsmen which can launch the ball over the boundaries. Rohit Sharma is the biggest hitter in India then may be Pandya. I just don't see anyone else in the system.

Shivam Dubey needs to be given his chances, he is a leftie which I likecan we roll his arm every match and give one or two overs is the question.I would not bat Pant in the middle order, he does not have game for the middle order. He needs to be an opener with Rohit Sharma.

It's a bit of an embarassement though. Had this been BD A team, wtv, kick the bucket, pull up your pants and show up for the next game. But we lost to BD B team (without  2 of their star players). Gotta sting abit ... not to mention they are a sh*t T20 team.

It's bad enough that we approach 50 over cricket today like we are playing a 50 over game in 2003. But when we approach T20s today like we are playing a 50 over game in 2003, there is little hope.
