Do you think this test team will be defeated in India any time soon?

Aus don't tour us at least till 2022. Eng in Early 2021 . No other team can even have an off chance of defeating this team looking at the way things stand.

So when do you think this juggernaut will stop (if at all  ) ?

1st critical (hopefully not crisis) point will be when Ashwin, Shami retire (almost together is my guess)...maybe in 2-3 years time.

 

After that when Jaddu, Che, Kohli call it quits...around 5 years time.

 

I don't consider Rahane, Ishant, Umesh as vital cogs for home tests. As great a keeper as Saha is, I think Pant is ready. Rohit, I will wait and see how he does against the stronger sides at home. 

 

Transitions are always difficult and that's when we will be most vulnerable...hopefully we don't have to face that problem in 2021/'22 when Eng, Aus, NZ tour here for tests. I mean those 3 are our biggest challenges, once we deal with them we get min 4 years breathing space.

 

Advantage compared to 2011-12 transition is that there will be good mentors in bowling department. When Ashwin goes, Jadeja will have a couple of years to groom the next spinner. When Shami departs we'll have Bumrah to guide the next batch. Fab 4 team was great at helping next-gen batsmen but MS wasn't kind to bowlers. Also oldie Zak was absent because of injuries when Ishant/Umesh/Shami needed his guidance. Harbhajan faded away and lost his spot when he needed to be mentoring a young Ashwin....our spin cupboard in 2008-11 period was pretty poor as such so the culture was lacking. Kuldeep has had a taste of international cricket and shared the dressing room with legends, he will find it easier to take the mantle and by the time Jadeja goes maybe Kuly can be the elder brother to someone like Rahul Chahar. Also Bharat Arun is a damn fine coach, he will ensure there isn't a dip in standards in bowling department......BCCI will be stupid to let him go cos this bowling unit owes a lot to him. Kohli is a pro-bowlers captain, another advantage. Not that worried about batting as long as TM has the vision and sense to gradually ease the Shaws, Viharis and Gills into the set-up....lot of talent there, also batsmanship has historically been India's strongest suit. When it comes to bowling I am still unsure whether we really have had a change in culture or this is a golden generation led by a unique skipper, only time will tell. Reason why I am being a bit cautious is because in 70s we had a legendary spin quartet with Goel and Shivalkar unable to get in the squad....in 80s we were left with Maninder, Ayub, Shastri etc...so quite a fall . Never take anything for granted....flood, drought, flood, drought type phenomenon isn't exclusive to water. 

 

We are so dominant at home primarily because this is the GOAT bowling attack for these conditions, the pack mentality is something else making it stronger than sum of parts. The ability to be so relentless and take 20 wickets (whilst creating additional half a dozen chances so that our catchers can complete their 'drop' quota) in 95% matches irrespective of nature of the pitches is what has resulted in 27-1. As long as bowling transition is handled well we will be fine. We are new to the art of ruthless domination and quite frankly whatever has transpired since 2013 Aus series has been beyond the expectations of even the most optimistic Indian fans, I think mistakes of 2011-12 won't be repeated. I don't mind when I see Pant, Gill, Saini, Kuldeep warming the benches because they are spending time with the squad and practicing in the nets, learning from the best, imbibing spirit of excellence, growing mentally tougher and more hungry for success....all a learning curve for them and part of mentoring process. They will be more ready when they finally get the chance....Aus had this culture in 90s and 00s and turned out well for them.

TBH, LOIs are a lottery. It's the test that matters more. Would love to win a test series in SA, England, NZ over LOI tournaments.

No ICC trophy yet, no Test series win in Eng, SA, did win vs Aus (without Smith and Warner though), that has been the biggest plus so far.

It wasn’t really a lottery for Aus in the late 90s till early 2000s. 
 

You might argue the 83 final was one of the biggest all time upsets but that was exception to the rule than the norm. WI was steam rolling everyone in ODIs.

 

T20 there is a chance of being a lottery but even there well managed teams like CSK,SRH and Mi perform consistently where as teams with all the fancy players but poor management suffer.

 

There is no lottery when you compete to your full potential.

No chance in hell Aus will beat us in 2022..except Smith and Labuschagne I see no player who can handle spin.Warner will be a shadow of him self..other players like Mitchell Marsh are walking wickets..the best of their lot unfortunately is now on a sabbatical..Pucovski..so if they cant score runs and put in excess of 400 everytime  batting first..they willl be in trouble..now if india wins toss first wwith SG Ball becoming soft after 40 overs the trio of pacemen cummins starck (not sure if he still will be there),hazelwood and Pattinson will find it difficult to stem runs..not sure whether Lyon will be as effective as he was (anyways he was smacked and neutralised after the two tests)..India will definitely have edge over them..with upcoming players like Gills of the world and Rahul Chahar,Yadav maturing by then..
