putrevus
We believe in taking singles and doubles and putting the pressure on the bowler by getting eight-nine an over without taking risks." What kind of statement is this "We beat oppositions by playing smart cricket". No Mr Rohit other teams are not fools. You are playing an outdated brand of cricket and terming it as smart cricket is ridiculous. This mindset needs to be changed if India has to do well in next T20 let alone winning it. Is this the coach talking or players talking? They are doing opposite in test matches. They are playing fast bowlers and here they are playing trundlers who will be useless. They are playing too many same type of batsmen also in the team. jf1gp_1
Taking 8 or 9 an over get you 170. Scorecard reflects your smart cricket wasn't good enough. Link to comment

India is a 170-180 team in T20. More on a lucky day where either a top order bat goes big, or a Pandya/Pant contributes down the order. That is a 'safe' strategy, that wins more games than you lose. But its not a World Cup winning one. Link to comment
GautiMaan
Very good point about too many similar batsmen,Iyer is a fantastic choice in ODIs but in t20s he is asked to play a role which he is not suited for.Time to invest in Surya Kumar Yadav before its too late. express bowling and Mosher 2 Link to comment

Frustrated
Wasting the power play in most t20 is never a part of smart cricket. Don't know why hitman does not understand such a simple thing. zen, Turning_track, nevada and 1 other 4 Link to comment

Don't know why hitman does not understand such a simple thing. Because he can't hit right from start. He needs atleast 15 balls before getting in his grove. Prithwi shaw and kl Rahul should open in t20. Frustrated, kirkutfan, zen and 1 other 4 Link to comment
putrevus
These safe tactics might work in bilaterals where teams are experimenting and winning or losing does not matter much. But come big tournaments you need match winners or players with some kind of Xfactor.I like 2007 team much better than 2019 team. It was a team which could handle all situations. This one will again limp if top three fail. Why are they playing so many trundlers when so many talented fast bowlers are available. Stan AF
From the same article. Quote West Indies v India, Wankhede Stadium: here we go again. In the T20 World Cup semi-final at this venue more than three years ago, India managed only four sixes on their way to a total of 192 for 2. West Indies' power-hitters, led by Lendl Simmons, then made that look a whole lot smaller by smashing 11 sixes. West Indies eventually sealed the chase with seven wickets and two balls to spare. In a way it’s good we’re not playing the likes of bumrah and saini in these useless matches. But it’s a problem if we continue to play these trundlers in tournaments as well. express bowling 1 Link to comment

We can hit ... but we do not want to hit lest the sparkling averages of our top batters look less sparkling ... or their number of half centuries do not look good enough. zen and Mosher 1 1 Link to comment
vvvslaxman
Pant has to develop a finishing game. That is his role. It is alarming to see how he completely misses the ball while attempting to hit. At worst some part of the bat should touch the ball. I sense KKD might come back again and flop in the real match.
