Virat should not try to enforce his buddies Dhawan and Jadeja in the team. Hope he has learned from his mistakes ,but the changes by him will be Chahal in place of Kuldeep Jadhav in place of Iyer Whoever plays it won't be easy to defeat them easily unless you strike early . Just accept Aussies have a very good in form team with full of confidence and we are playing on absolute pattas and their batting firepower is much much better .
diehardpacer Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 Dhawan & KL played too slow. Rohit & Kohli are allowed to fail. It's good for the team if they fail since it gives others chance to perform under pressure. Not sure if Iyer is good against decent pace bowling. Thakur & Jadeja were terrible. Shami & Bumrah are allowed to have off days. Fielding lapses. Changes needed for next game: Saini & Chahal in place of Thakur & Jadeja. This makes batting weak. But don't have any better options. zen and express bowling 2
Vickydev Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 (edited) Noone in particular. Comprehensively outplayed by a much better team, no comparison between the two. We won't win either of the next matches unless the Aussies let off. Should be a clean sweep for the Oz. Edited January 14, 2020 by Vickydev sergio04 1

I will give some credit to Aussie bowlers for those wickets - 2 of those deliveries were cross-seam/cutter while one was plain pacy. Our bowlers never seem prepared as a unit (again, backroom deficiency which shows up against top tier, well-drilled teams). Batting in 1st half wasn't all that difficult, KL - Dhawan were playing for themselves (no blame), others kept getting out just when they were set and about to accelerate. We should hv got to 300 in any case. Ankit_sharma03 1

Cricwala Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 (edited) Kohli "Because of the way KL has been batting, we have tried to fit him in the batting line-up. Having said that, I don't think it's quite gone our way whenever I've batted No. 4 so we'll probably have to rethink about that one." One match and no. 4 experiment over? So what was criteria for this experiment being termed a success - 1. KL scoring 50 or 100? 2. Kohli scoring 50 or 100 at no. 4? 3. India scoring 300+ irrespective of KL+Kohli score 4. Cricwala Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 In science, we experiment to prove or disprove a particular hypothesis. We observe, record, analyse and conclude. Result of experiments lead to formation of scientific laws, atleast till the time that new phenomenon are discovered. In kohli-world, experiments are their own justification. One experiments not to prove/disprove a hypothesis, not to learn things based on which future actions can be decided, but because conducting an experiment is part of the process, an end in itself. As infinite variables and intangibles are involved in cricket (player form, opponent skill level, nature of pitch, form in nets, attitude, captains instinct etc), an experiment can at best provide temporary insight, sometimes as short as 1 match. Future experiments are required to test validity of past ones, and so nothing conclusive can ever be said about the ART of team selections. Only lesser minds crave set patterns, templates and teams. So if today's experiment tells us that Virat is not suited for no. 4, it does not confirm that KL is unsuited for 3 or that Shreyas is suited only for 4. Samjhe?
putrevus Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 (edited) Let us examine today's match.Iyer's failure today , it can happen to anyone.Kohli does not need anything to prove , he is fine.Dhawan is proven odi player who is coming off an injury .Rohit does not need anything to prove. Pant looked overmatched sometimes and was looking like he was unable to handle the pace and in general Pant is having a problem in rotating the strike, he has not found any method which can get him consistent results. He can't deny that he did not get enough chances to prove himself. He has to find a method which works for him for his long term success. He to me is suited for opening role than middle order. If he is out due to concussion then he will leave himself vulnerable if his replacement comes in and succeeds. Rahul is another player who even in T20 has shown that his SR keeps dropping as his innings progresses..His List A SR is 76 which is just ridiculous. How the heck is being considered when much better players are there for that role. What exactly is Rahul bringing to the table, is he a flamboyant dasher who will give the team blazing starts if he made opener in place of Dhawan.Answer is no, he is not doing that either.A guy like Sehwag was giving his team fast start every match he played or got out early. if it was his day he would win match on his won. Johny Baristow should be the template for Rahul, he replaced Alex Hales when he was injured but he forced his team to kick Hales out of the team by scoring runs at such a pace. There was no match this year in which Rahul scored his runs with more than 100 SR. If both Rahul and Iyer play , they cannot play an extra bowler which is a must these days.If I were Kohli I would drop Rahul and get extra bowler Saini. Edited January 14, 2020 by putrevus nevada 1

Fair assessment. And I mentioned the following point in the Speed and Performance thread. " Indian pacers looked to swing and over-pitched quite a bit early on. " Even if one is bowling with upright seam ... too many overpitched balls without swing, and too few bouncers, don't work. They should have looked to bowl good length off stump regarding their seam up balls. Dew obviously played a part too. Edited January 15, 2020 by express bowling Mosher 1

vaul Posted January 15, 2020 Posted January 15, 2020 I think many here are finding the excuses of poor batting by Indian batsmen by blaming bowlers. They batted as if they were batting on a very tough wicket. Indian bowlers bowled what they were bowling against Bangladeshis/Sri Lankans/West Indians. Now real difference was batsmen facing them ! Take example of Shardul. He bowled excellent first over to Warner with a close lbw appeal. In his next over Warner changed his game plan as he played lofted shot over cover on almost same length delivery he was trying to defend in first over. Then he played across the line through mid wicket on same length delivery he was getting beaten in first over of Shardul. Thus he forced him to pull the length back, and hit a six on short ball of shardul thereafter. In nutshell,Indian bowlers tried all line and lengths but their openers batted superbly as there was not any extra pace/bounce /spin on pitch. In contrast Indian batsmen played too slow. These days,Shikhar plays almost at s/r of 100 even in t20s ! Rahul has list A s/r around 80 -unacceptable by any standards. nevada 1
bhakum20 Posted January 15, 2020 Posted January 15, 2020 shardul and bumrah did get some swing though. Not sure about shami. Plan just didn’t work out. AUS batsmen were in great form and I don’t think any other bowler could’ve done much

IIRC bumrah/shami stopped overpitching once they sized up the pitch after 4 overs, just 2 overs each. After that they tried short of length or slower balls(bumrah), nothing seemed to work. I trust them to come back strong. They’re our best ever pair vaul 1
