KL is a natural opener. Not a middle order bat. He was doing really well opening along with Rohit last year. He can take on the fast bowling and play the big shots in the powerplay.

Stop fiddling with his order and make him a permanent opener.

I was thinking on the same lines. We are guaranteed of a fast carefree approach when he opens.

Yeah he was doing really well, we saw how he turned into viv in world cup and was scoring at 200 str rate.

Please don't delude yourselves these guys can play only in ipl

For the same team a different captain will have a galvanizing effect so much so that it will start performing in a manner that is unrecognizable from what we have seen for much of this cursed year. Captains on average have a shelf life of only 5 yrs if they even survive that long, this is doubly true for an all format captain like kohli. A 2 yr stop gap like r sharma won't be the worst idea though knowing indian crickets bureaucratic methods this is a long shot. Expect tepid low intensity performances off the back of a recently concluded pyjama league without that. Our best bet is a surprise in the test series.

You must be deluded &/or blind to not see that it was under the TM's instructions he did that :whack3:

He can't open and keep. It will be too much for him. Given how fragile he used to be at the start of his career, it's surprising he hasn't got injured despite keeping regularly.

Well, Rahul is the best we have....so even with flaws we need to accept him. When I see batsman like Iyer, Shaw etc., Rahul is much better. The fact is we are no longer producing batting talent like we once did.

That is point people are not able to grasp. Indian batting talent is not the same.Kohli and Sharma are last talent players to emerge but they emerged over a decade ago..

I think we are producing enough batting talent, but our talent is succumbing into pleasing the Franchise owners. Shaw is a classic example, made a great debut for India in test, but lost his shape completely playing T20 and IPL. Rahul was also a classical Test batter when he burst into scene, but now hes neither in Test reckoning nor a consistent player in white ball cricket. Our batters look confused and lack clarity in how they would like to progress in their career further.

How many times we will keep finding excuses. Number 5 or 1 or number 3, Rahul hasn’t learned how to be consistent in international cricket in 50 overs and test.

You have 30 overs to bat and you play this shyt shot

Himself to blame. Horrible.

Iyer and Rahul have been the best middle order batsman for us since the WC. A couple of failures here do not make them bad players. Both carried the team in NZ

He will be opening again pretty soon. Don't you worry.
