Natarajan is more suited to T20s than ODIs. He looks like a good T20 bowler. His defensive yorker is very good.

ODIs require lots of hard length balls in the first 40 overs .. and that delivery looks average as of today. Let's see how he shapes up.

Exactly I also think that.  We need to make sure he stays T20 specialist I think.  I'd have liked to see Siraj in ODI format on this tour as he moves the new ball & is decent with older ball as well.

ODIs will be tough for Natarajan I think

Not sure of Shelf life of Natrajan  but he can come good in India (21) as well as AU (22)  . If fit, he can be good for all surfaces  among  new Indian bowlers as he has

1.  A natural Left arm angle .

2.  Best Control over Yorker .

3.  Bowls well at Left handers at death  - uses yorkers on stumps as well wide yorkers .

4. Has good slower balls .

5. Bowls decent slow cutters .

He should further

improve cutters ,

add bit of pace ,

bowl wide yorkers  to RH batsmen

Also needs a kaptaan who uses him well mostly towards middle & end overs .

India should clearly have 2021 WC in mind and use Natrajan & Varun ( do not over expose him)  for that tournament .

And am looking at Natrajan only for T20.  Have  a scary feeling that he may get injured if he plays more 50 overs and that may put an end to his T20 career too as an effective bowler.

yes natrajan is a t20 bowler, infact even chahar also

ODI has middle phase which is where both will struggle

Bowlers who bowl only pace wont work in t20s. The pitches these days are oriented towards batting and the bigger bats with innovative bat manufacturing have made the conventional fast bowler a thing of the past. Bowlers need to vary their pace even if they are quick. There's a reason Starc has struggled and Hazelwood went for a few in his last overs to Jadeja. Bumrah and Cummins have the knack to mix in slower deliveries to keep the batsmen guessing. Its only these fast bowlers and the medium pacers with their knuckle deliveries will survive in the harsh environs of t20 and dare I say even ODI cricket. ODI cricket still values taking wickets at the front so a fast bowler with some swing like Boult will be useful

Even Archer got smashed in that last game against SA recently. Just pace wouldn’t work. Natarajan has that control and variations ( so far ) that makes him the perfect T20 bowler and has yorkers too.

He will have a bad day which anyone can have but I fear he will have such a bad day that he will never again be picked. This TM is not good with player management

And while we are discussing all that, Kaptaan fool didn’t have anything to say about him in the last ODI and vomited Gobar today when he didn’t praise him at all.

What does acumen 101 say? Can he be part of our T20 WC campaigns?

he will be more effective on Indian dry pitches than foregin conditions. He only bowls cross seam and yorker length which is great on the subcontinent.

Earned his shot however don’t see him having a very long career, partly due to his own limitations and majorly due to this crappy team management.

That is a problem we have in T20s. Bumrah is the only quick bowler we have who has high skills for T20s

ODIs are different in the first 40 overs. More conventional bowling works usually. Which is why Shami usually does well. As does Starc.

If we see this IPL, top wicket takers' were dominated by quick bowlers. Showing thereby that fast bowlers who can develop T20 skills can still be the best.

But I don't know why our non-Bumrah fast bowlers don't practice a couple of types of slower balls and practice the yorker a lot more.

We need at least 3 quick bowlers in our pool who have T20 skills.

After 2 matches? Will we back him when he goes for runs in a few matches?

Let him perform well for at least 12-15 months before any judgment. He has the necessary tools to be a good LOI bowler. Upto the TM and coaching set up to groom him and improve him.
He did pretty well in the IPL ....

IPL is pretty competitve and those performances cannot be ignored

Saini is there he shud be in mix....guy has great yorker and short one plus can keep nerves in pressure position...thats enough for me rest a player will evolve

Saini should

1. Practice his yorkers a lot more.

2. Go back to bowling 142 k to 152 k like he was doing in 2019

3. Practice bowling 1 type of slower ball

4. Bowl on the shorter side of good length as he lacks natural bounce. He gets driven the moment he bowls on the fuller side ... as he lacks natural bounce.

As of now, the captain will find it difficult to play him ahead of Natarajan etc. in T20s.

Thakur is a good hitter too. I'm sure @speedheat will be like

I think Thakur should be a regular in ODI setup. But with that legend, you never know... he may shut us up in T20s too

Bumrah is good for t20s because he is not predictable. He bowls a quick yorker, quick length ball, quick bouncer, slower bouncer, slower length ball, wide yorkers, etc, Chahar is not quick but can bowl swing early on and mixes in the end with slower bouncer, knuckle ball, wide yorkers. Shami and Saini are all one paced. This has to change. I don't know why we have a bowling coach who is just collecting paychecks and does nothing. All these variations are learnt by these bowlers in the IPL. All the bowling coach needs to do is when to bowl it and how a batsmen thinks. For bowlers like Shami and Saini who dont bowl these variations, the coach is supposed to make them practice it. Players like Bumrah, Shami and Saini will be more deadly if they learn how to produce variations rather than just bowling fast. Its highly effective because the slower bowlers don't have that much of a differential in pace. Its usually medium fast to slow for them. Fast bowlers can bowl fast, slow balls, and a whole gamut in between

And it amazes me why Saini and Shami do not practice and use yorkers and slower balls a lot more.

Shami has a very good yorker ... and he can bowl 5 good ones in an over ... but we saw in the last over today that he bowled length and got hit. I don't understand why !!

Why are they not being told to do this !!

He did in the home leg of the ODI series against Aus. 2nd game in a flat track where we amassed 340 or so and in danger with smith and labushcahgne going great guns. I pretty much recall every ball after 40th over was yorker or low full toss and we defended well. But here's the danger with yorkers. One is you have to be in the rhythm to bowl yorker after yorker - execution is a problem. Two batsmen get premeditated if you are bowling yorkers and nothing else and go deep in the crease to turn it into a half volley or try the scoop shot. Three you need more than just yorkers to keep the batsmen guessing.

Yes we need some quick hit the deck bowlers who can bowl those hard lengths ,some heavy balls etc provided not much change in line(according to field placements)

At pace these deliveries generally induce edges
