Navdeep Saini is overrated.

Not too bad on this patta, might still come back in the second innings

Gave runs to starc as well. Dont want to be too harsh but needs to control runs. Thats the strength of this indian bowling. No freebies dont want him to release pressure.

Saini was told to bowl a bouncer barrage with fielders in the deep. And Starc was wildly swinging the bat every other ball.

Hit a couple and then got out too. I guess this was the plan.

Why couldn't we rotate all Quicks. Be innovative.

Saini with jaddu

Bumrah ATG with jaddu

Siraj with jaddu

Mix it up. Be unpredictable ? Lol. Would have worked wonders.

But Saini performed well imo. He is still new. First outing. Good performance. Better than the world class shahqueen Afridi in Australia.

It's not easy to perform in Australia on your first tour. He was a bit erratic at time but he did well towards the end. Got wickets. Good job. Hope he keeps a good line. He will come good.

He wasn't in the action for long enough for the detailed analysis of his bowling through zoom in cams but surely there will be some issue with his seam position.

He looks quick but there is no bite in his bowling most probably not hitting the seam for good number of balls.

I thought he struggled to get his lengths early on. Maybe he was told to do something, which was either not implemented properly or not planned well.
Saini may not have that much of a role in this test, but I am sure he would have a learnt a great deal and that will stand him in good stead in times to come

Not convinced yet on Saini. Siraj is much better in comparison.

Lets see what he can do in second inning.

Different roles have been assigned to Siraj and Saini based on their bowling style.

Siraj has been told to perform Ishant / Hazlewood's role ... to his credit he has done it well.

Saini has been given Starc's role of bowling either full and attacking the stumps or peppering the opposition with quick bouncers.

This role results in more expensive bowlers but can fetch wickets too, especially in situations when a wicket is not falling.

Absolutely. And despite being in better rhythm, it still felt he was not bowling at his full tilt. He's fully capable of bowling a 6-7 over spell of consistent 90mph+ speeds.

The day he starts hitting the right areas regularly at 145 k+ ... like he was doing in 2017 to 2019 ... the opposition will have a real tough time.

And today he gave us hope that he maybe do it sooner rather than later.

Like you said in another post, it is about getting the confidence that he belongs to this stage.

Test of the bowler is whether he threatens to take wickets , leave aside no.of wickets he got .

He is no Bhumra to start performing big straight away .

One plus he has is pace . Control with high pace will bring false shot under pressure .

It would be very much fine if he takes couple of wickets every inning to start his career .

another issue would be he will not get a  test place easily in indian pitches , & in overseas tour he will #5 in ranking queue once fully fit Shami & Ishant return.

So limited chances i suppose .
