Was this the most perfect display of fast bowling?

I've watched McGrath's 8 wickets against both Pakistan in 2005 and England in 1997, and what Hazlewood did today eclipses those performances.

 

Bowling on a length that is neither too full nor too short, making the batsman confused if he should come forward and defend to prevent late swing or staying backfoot and leaving the ball.

 

Targeting a line which is just outside off stump with a hint of outswing which swings late, confusing the batsman if he should play the ball or leave because he cannot judge if the ball will swing late or not.

 

Really, this was pure awesomeness. Bumrah's 5/7 or some fiery spells from Holding/Akhtar where stumps go flying cannot be repeated everyday, but the consistent line & length bowling with a hint of swing from Hazlewood/Cummins today can be repeatable.

 

Any spells you can think of which were much better than today's display?

There have been tougher spells negotiated. It was damn good bowling and inept and impotent batting.

Exactly, It was wonderful bowling, but shot selection and succumbing to pressure were contributing factors.

Bhai saab! Kya spell kiya Hazlewood/Cummins ne. Length was just right and line with late swing forcing the batsman to play the shot! Who can live with this bowling?

 

Except for Kohli who made a mistake by playing away from the body, Pujara/Rahane/Vihari/Mayank/Ashwin all did the right thing but were victims of excellent bowling.

Ashwin threw his bat at a 5th stump delivery first up. Could have left it alone. Pujara closed his bat face a little too early. Mayank and Rahane were not stable while playing their shots. Rahane was looking to drive actually.

Currently indian fans, media and management hate bowlers like Hazelwood and boult in tests.  There is a blind belief that only fast seamers would succeed and bowlers like bhuvi were hated depsite averaging 27 home and away in tests

 

As a result we have sameness in attack while other attacks such as England, Australia and New zealnd are way more diverse

What? This guy in test cricket was needed overseas but he gets injured before every important tour so what can others do? Anyways even if he gets fit now i doubt if he can last full test without getting injured.

Good bowling but probably lacked intent in batting in second innings. Pujara helped in first innings by playing many deliveries which meant bowlers got tired and ball got a bit old and stopped doing so much which helped other batsmen to score. But in second innings, he got out cheaply which meant other batsmen were exposed to new ball in good conditions.

 

If you dont score, you dont pressure back on the bowlers. They will get in to a good rhythm and keep hitting the right areas which means you will likely get out. So some batsmen need to keep looking for scoring opportunities and put some pressure back on to the bowlers. Also, need couple of batsmen to hold one end and just play out as many deliveries as they can.

 

Problem is there is sameness in this order, all right handers and similar batting style - like Mayank, Pujara, Rahane, Vihari. Need some variety there.

When they were bowling a fuller line and length, why didnt they try to step forward a bit and try to drive them down the ground ? Also, not many pull or hook shots of the short deliveries. They were too reluctant to score  so they chose to play out the seamers which was probably not a good approach on that pitch.

Ideal team should have one LHB in top 3 (hope Padikkal develops soon), one in MO (Pant) and one in lower order (Jadeja). Automatically lines will suffer and sometimes even go haywire, sameness and lack of intent allowing Hazlewood, Cummins, Lyon to find their favorite areas.
