IPL captains should not captain/VC the national side

Recommended Posts

It is a conflict of interest. Kohli and Dhoni got a lot of their teammates into the national side. Sometimes, at the cost of others. Our ODI team is full of IPL stars. T20 team, ok it is natural. They have to recognize ODis is a different ball game.

Boot out Kohli from ODIs/T20s. Phase him out of Test captaincy where we get back gun Kohli at the helm.

Discuss.

And CSK guys- Chahar, Ashwin, Jaddu, vijay ...dnt see whats the problem with any

Mohit sharma- he did pretty well in 2015 Wc

People forget Ct 2013 - Where vijay was taken as opener and he was the one who opened in Warmup games not rohit. Both vijay n rohit failed in warmup games and Dhoni took a punt on rohit not Vijay

Mohit was not international class. Aus thrashed him in the SF and was one of the reasons for India's downfall.

We are not talking if picks were deserving. It leaves a window of conflict of interest on the captain. IPL jobs and national jobs should be separated. Just like how Dravid  gave up his IPL job for his NCA chairman job.

Aussies thrashed everyone at that day , aise nahin 330 ban gaye. If batsman had an off day so can bowler....despite not being of highest quality he performed really well not to forget his fielding from deep that got AB. He was a damn good fielder in deep

Look at it this way, we now have neutral umpires why? Some Aussies whine that they don't get Simon Taufel officiate Aus matches and have to settle down for the likes of Aleem Dar. But, that is only way to ensure there is no bias, even if it is a semblance. Have to sacrifice quality for Integrity.

Why? Put in the right checks and balances. Why should someone showing exemplary leadership in IPL be denied the opportunity to lead the national side. Better way to go is to cut down the unfettered power Dhoni and Kohli captain were able to consolidate

Kumble was the check, our Kaptaan couldn't work with him, got his own puppy toy.

IPL captains and vice captains are picked on who is the best leader in the dressing room and not exactly on brand value.

Even Dhoni was replaced by Smith. Guys like Yuvraj,Ashwin,Sehwag etc didn’t have such an extended run with captaincy because they were stats.

Indian team captain is picked by the selectors (technically)

If favoritism is the reason then that would exist in terms of personal relationships, region or community feeling in some way or the other.

So not sure there is any conflict as long as the admins which is the Team management and selectors do their job and BCCI monitors them appropriately.

Even if we implement this policy, there is nothing stopping a captain from picking his mates, whether its from his ipl team or his ranji team or his high school team, it doesn't matter. You are talking as if captains have been picking with their biases only since ipl has started

only way to stop this is proper division of powers and responsibilities b/w coaches, selectors and captains

Which deserving player in recent years has not gotten his chance to play for India. Which player has gotten unfair advantage. Captain has to get his team ,it is going to be his team as long as he is the captain. Captain also has to fight to justify why a player needs to be selected if selectors are not keen to pick that player.

Precisely the point about curbing player power

Also, IMO Kumble, while definitely being a better coach than Motormouth Shastri, going by his performances as a coach in IPL (his only other coaching experience), would not have been a great coach in the long term either. He's far too regimental in his approach
