Why is Rahane still in the team for home tests?

Averages just over 32 since 2016 in India and only Saha has a worse average than him (marginally). We all make a mockery of Saha's batting but somehow "Jinks" escapes criticism of the experts because he makes a century in the away tours to just about keep his place. If Vihari is regarded as a specialist overseas batsman, why is Rahane not accorded a similar treatment?

Isn't  Rahane's last two home series in India good?  Also he will milk that MCG ton till Eng tour.  That's how it happens in Indian cricket. 

 

More pressing question is What is Rohit vada pav doing here?   He failed vs Bangladesh at home & goes missing on a tough NZ tour.  Scores a fifty on a flat low bounce Sydney.  And then flops again. 

We drop our highest run scorer in a calendar year (Mayank) who was our highest run scorer in NZ as well for this 34 year old oldie. 

The issue lies in seniority culture.  Giving constant chances to TTFs

Make Rahane Captain for overseas tests. Drop him for home test. 
Keep Virat Captain for home test and play him as no 4 batsman in overseas test..

His last 4 scores in India before this test were 59, 115, 86, 51. How will drop someone with those performances, even though those last two innings were vs BD.

 

He should ideally have been dropped in 2018 itself from the Afghanistan test onwards. But now with his leadership success, even with average performances, he should be leading this young team instead of Kohli, else our youngsters will never be groomed properly.

Play Saha and “rest” Rahane. Pant is good enough to play as a batsman and we will need Saha’s keeping in the remaining tests as we know pitches are going to be a lot more tricky based on the result of the game.

Many of the geniuses here wanted him to become captain of the team. Rahane is already milking that Melbourne 100 like he has done thruout his career.This guy bats in coziest batting spot and yet has never shown ability to carry the team.

 

First rule to be a captain you need to earn the spot in the team as a player.

The hate for Rahane oozing through this post of a Kohli cheerleader. That 100 at MCG which Rahane is supposedly milching, contributed massively to our fight back in the test series. But for that knock and his leadership, captain LOL had got us almost out of WTC finals race.

 

BTW current Indian captain in his last 7 innings averages 13 (we lost 3 of those tests). Why doesn't the same rule apply to him?

I don't hate Rahane, There is reason why Rahane averaged in low 40s.

 

You need to understand cricket on why your statement questioning current captain's batting is so moronic ,cannot help you there.

The problem with that is with the exception of Australia, Rahane flopped in his last SENA tours (as did Pujara).

An above average batsman but a great captain who can get the best out of team and guide the youngsters vs a great batsman but a terrible egoistic PR hungry captain.

 

Any one not a cheerleader, will know what/who is in the larger benefit of a team.

Also, 

One test mace = 10 ipl trophies 

One series victory in Aus = 100 ipl trophies

Secondly i was talking about test cricket, in lois i also want to see Rohit Sharma  as our captain.

I know it's annoying watching Rahane fail with bat but the guy has led us to our greatest test series win of all-time. I would give up two home series loss for such win. 

 

Hence, we should make peace with Rahane.
