Prasidh Krishna, the Karnataka pacer, is likely to get his maiden call-up to the Indian ODI team for the upcoming series against England, following his 14-wicket return in the recently-concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy.

One of the most prolific pacers in the Indian domestic circuit for the last few years, Krishna will pair up with the likes of Mohammed Siraj, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan, Navdeep Saini and Shardul Thakur in the pace department. Jasprit Bumrah, who announced his marriage on Monday, is likely to miss out after being an extended leave.

Krunal Pandya, the Baroda all-rounder who is yet to make his ODI debut, is also likely to join the 18-member squad for the 50-over series, following a good run of form in the recently-concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he scored two unbeaten centuries and two half-centuries. However, some of the other top-performers like Mumbai's Prithvi Shaw and Karnataka's Devdutt Padikkal are likely to be overlooked. The openers had top-scored in the tournament, with 827 and 737 runs respectively.

The selectors are believed to be of the view there is no opening in the squad for the duo with the likes of KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma around. Unless there is a last minute change of plans, all four are certain to find a place in the squad for the three games to be played in Pune, on March, 23, 26 and 28.

Among other regulars, it is unlikely anyone will be rested. There was a talk that Rohit will be asked to take a breather but the vice-captain may continue to be in the mix just like skipper Virat Kohli himself.

Much like the batters, the best bowlers of the tournament - Shivam Sharma (21 wickets) and Arzan Nagwaswalla (19 wickets) - are also unlikely to be considered.

Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja, who has resumed practice recently, will continue to remain in the sidelines for a little more time, due to fitness issues.

Good that Prasidh is getting a chance if the above is true. But Krunal seems more suited for T20

Prithvi Shaw should have been picked and Dhawan should have been told after 2019 that he doesnt feature in the scheme of things
Only our selectors/TM/board dont see bilateral ODIs as a avenue for pooling up players to win the next world cup.. rest of the boards all plan with 4 year cycles in mind..

It was used to be done before but since Joke of a Kaptaan took over and tradition of putting stooge selectors only meant they use these bilaterals an opportunity to pad their stats and maintain an average of 50 or thereabouts

Kkrunal for 50 overs . Does not  make sense.

Prasidh - Very low expectations. Would have preferred him to debut vs lesser teams .  Will get a mauling by these ENG monsters in Pune patta. Hope his confidence is not shattered .

Last time Aus  A  openers went after him and he lost his confidence .

Since bowlers’ work load is being managed with relatively more focus, there would be more opportunities for them ... though the important thing is to get in the 12-13 otherwise you are likely to warm the bench for the whole series
