That is because it sells. As a news paper you want ad revenue. Which is mainly a function of footfall on your website. News walas know this sells.

The 'stars' know it sells too.

As a society we are consumers of this content. We can't consume it *and* blame the creator.

Reminds me of my sister. Good that she doesn't read these pages. She used to gorge on the mutton samosas my mom made and used to complain that my mom is making her fat. That is an incoherent stand.

I see it a different way.

Would you discuss where you went holidaying at a funeral?

Should you even ask? Of course I wouldn't.

Look most of us are aware how bad the situation is. Most of us are locked down or have some kind of restriction on mobility. Many of us are also involved in some kind of community help. And most of us also have occupations and families to take care of. You want people to be perpetually gloomy and not read anything else except on Covid? Should they not lead their lives?

All of us are watching the IPL. Does it mean that the BCCI is mocking the covid victims by holding the IPL now? Anyone who generates income now with his her spare $ is doing a good job.

Hospitality had a terrible year in 2020. Lots of people have been fired. Lots of jobs lost. This maybe a much needed shot to the arm for that sector. Hospitality and aviation.

I just don't see why you are so worked up about this.

The analogy for me is very clear.

A sensible person wouldn't discuss their holidays at a funeral. As with anything, there is a time and place.

It's the attention seeking behaviour that gets to me. Everybody's capacity is on addressing the COVID issue, to use that as a funnel to divert attention to oneself and make themselves "the story" is unconscionable. And unconscionable at every level.

No one is saying to live a life of gloom and doom. I gave the example of myself going to Europe when there were bushfires back home. I had enough sense and awareness of my surroundings not to make a big hoo haa about it.

Who has more clout? Me or someone like  a Mandira Bedi? I'd like to say myself but I'll go with Mandirs Bedi.

My exact thoughts. I find it inappropriate or cringy at times when India is facing a lot of distress, and such people put a vacavtion reel,  but then on 2nd thought, who are we to judge when all of us collectively are looking from a different lens.

Better not to judge anyone at this times. We all have been bad.

When our relatives were organizing weddings in November-December of 2020 of their sons and daugthers when Covid situations in India was much better, there were still people dying of covid. No one said anything then or felt sad for the covid victims and their families then, even though it was just 3-4 months ago. We have been under pandemic from over a year now, and I am very sure, all of us have done something wrong in someone's eye in the last one year.

So better to look at ourselves first.

Umm no not gonna happen, IPL will run or close in its own terms if thee is public health risk authorities will close it if it becomes untenable for the players in the bubble they will close it not because some Pakistani wishes it so lol. How shallow can you people get? Don't you disgust yourself?

Instead of extending a helping hand they are enjoying life. If your neighbors house is on fire do you help douse the flames and help or go to a movie? These sheethead filmstars are taking a vacation. I will never get it.

You are giving them more traffic, attention and TRP and click-baits to them who thrive on both pro and anti traffic. Best to ignore them

This behaviour is not specific to Bollywood stars, even in the Uk you has social media influencers and reality tv stars jetting out to Dubai in the midst of the pandemic as the rules allowed them to 'travel for work'

The harsh truth is people like Disha Pattni and her celebrity bubble are just that.. a bubble. They have no care or empathy for the common man who is suffering that the moment. The very people who watch their films and earn them money in the name of entertainment and stress relief. Its true the GOI has managed this episode very badly and prioritising election campaigning to effectively mitigate any super spreader events ( whichever religious gathering they be) but rich people who have become rich on the back of the common publics money have a moral responsibility for helping their fellow citizens with the resources and networks they have. No one is stopping them to go to Maldives to enjoy.. go do that, but don't expect the same love and blind admiration back from the very people you have abandoned.

I don't mind them going.

Go but keep it private.

Put it this way, if you are at a funeral, would you want to hear about people's travel conversations?

Should we extrapolate that to the entire world wide web or even it's India user base ?

I'm no fan of these celebs, just debating the context of space.

It's not their fault.  It's ours.  If public stopped following them on SM and living vicariously through them, they'll automatically stop.  For them any publicity is good publicity.

When Second wave was ravaging India, top trending on twitter was about removal of Kangana from twitter.
