Euro 2020: Jimmy Neesham's hilarious take on England's final defeat reminds fans of NZ's World Cup loss

New Zealand all-rounder James Neesham took a

cheeky dig at England after the team's Euro final defeat vs Italy in the penalty shootout, referring to New Zealand's World Cup 2019 final defeat which got decided by counting the number of boundaries hit by each team.

Neesham came up with a hilarious tweet and asked if the Euro 2020 final could be decided by counting the passes made by each team.

"Why is it a penalty shootout and not just whoever made the most passes wins?" — tweeted the New Zealand all-rounder to remind cricket fans of New Zealand's 2019 World Cup defeat.

A nice banter but the point to note is that Eng did not design the rules in the ICC world cup to crown itself the world champ. The rules were in place before the tournament and applicable to every team. Eng itself got into the final by picking up its game big time, winning both virtual KO and KO games (peaked at the right time)

Besides they were lucky to make it to SF.

 

Eng had been the standout ODI team for 2-3 years in the lead-up to the WC, world #1, played an innovative+daring+exciting brand of cricket, won many must-win matches on the trot (like 1999 Aus under Waugh), lost the toss in the final still matched NZ. Best side won, most deserving side won, quit whining. 

 

20 years later people will remember the 2019 Eng ODI side and know how it was instrumental in changing the approach to white ball cricket, just like 1996 Lanka. Nobody will give a **** about the boring NZ ODI side, only quality being unlimited luck in that WC edition.....footnote in cricket history.

Lolwut? How was NZ lucky in the wc, but not Eng? England lost to terrible Sri Lanka and Pakistan ffs, and could have been eliminated in the group stages itself if not for India's generosity. 

 

Who cares about bilateral series? England did not deserve to win the wc PERIOD. They lost to Pakistan despite hammering them 5-0 just before the wc. That's how badly they choked in that wc, and chokers should not have any place in tournaments. 

 

Did you even watch the finals? The amount of England got through by "accident" and from umpires - yet they could only tie the game. NZ deserved to win that match and should have won. 

 

And no, 2019 wc will ALWAYS be remembered for the farce that happened on thet day.

Rules were made before habd but they were stupid stupid rules. Any cricket fans should condenm such rules

Rules weren't made on that particular day. 

Apart from being the winner by boundary count, England finished ahead of nz in group stage and were the number one team in ranking too. Fair and Square. Period
