Is this going to be a repeat of 2014 series ?

Look at all the similarities:

1st test - drawn

2nd test - India won at Lord's. Anderson had a fight with Jadeja

3rd test - India batted first and had a collapse (8/4 at one stage) and bowled out for a low score. Lost

4th test - Lost

5th test - Lost

England won series 3-1.

I remember Murali Vijay played well in first 2 tests and then failed in most of the remaining innings and we are seeing something similar in KL Rahul.

I think  generally India is not used to playing 5 match series as they will usually play once every 4 or 5 years and they find it hard to sustain the intensity and quality whereas England is more used to it as they play Ashes regularly which is a 5 match series. This is where England have an advantage.

I don't think so, you may see a complete reversal in the next game & a decider at Menchester. Both batting orders are brittle but England have done well to focus on all rounders now, Ali/Curran/Overton all three can bat pretty well & will elongate their batting line-up.

However, I still think this won't be surrender as meek as 2014 post Lords. Loli is foolish but he will look into the fact that he is carrying a long tail with an already ordinary batting line-up, some personnel changes are bound to happen.

8/4 was the fourth test if I remember correctly. In the third test, Root scored a brutal 150 something while batting first.

But end state is likely to be 1-3

Quite possible.

The bowling and fielding are already in shambles. England have delivered the knock out punch. Difficult to see clown finding a way back in the series.

With the likely 2 day long runathon, I wouldn't be sury to see injuries as well

We had guys like Pankaj Singh, Ishant 1.0 and Shami etc then. Our bowling is a huge upgrade so may not be as bad. I feel it will be 2-2 or even 2-1 to India.

Yes, bowling is miles ahead but they cant do much if batsmen dont put any runs on board. What's worse is Kohli's over confidence on his batsmen despite their dismal form and playing only 5 batsmen with a long tail.

Mark Wood and Chris Woakes are likely to join back for last 2 tests. More English batsmen will find form and belief. Home advantage in England should never be taken lightly and we have gifted back the initiative. Unless Kohli finds some form magically along with Pant , Jadeja and openers and somehow Ashwin comes in and turns the table, it is doomed to be 3-1 England, so yes repeat of 2014 is likely.

Will that be bad though? What if English batting fails and we are somehow 2-2 and Pujara-Kohli-Rahane carry on thier mega failures to NZ series and we lose a home series after 9 years? India needs to lose this series for any hopes of forcing changes. May still not happen but at least there is a chance if we lose badly (which we definitely deserve to, with this batting order's mental toughness and application).

This game was the best chance to win the series and now its gone. Eng will recover injured players for the final two tests as well as gain confidence and form.

Kohli and losing just seem to always go together. Game over.

Woakes down the order will be a big boost

Yes India will lose every game from here on. Chokohlibaba thought winning one game where he had zero contribution, that he had won the world. With our batting lineup, this game is done and dusted. England won’t need to bat a second time. Chokohlibaba will throw a fit, MC BC all his teammates, demoralize them and it is all downhill from there. India will do a repeat of 2014 series. Chokohli is a virulent cancer, you have to remove the cancer before this team will go anywhere.

Maro BC.. 3 Stooges and the biggest egomaniac clown deserves this. I hope the bowlers don't toil much as there will be leather hunt for the next 2 days

If Woakes comes back we are *ed. MO as such is useless, but doubt Rohit/KLR will survive 10-12 overs opening burst of Anderson and Woakes in tandem.

Woakes is much better than this version of Broad, about as good as Andu in Eng conditions. And he can bat, better than Ali/Curran especially in English conditions. Not only did he crush Pakistani spirits last year in that epic 4th innings chase, can't forget his brilliant 2018 Lord's 100....

For Asian sides playing in Eng, Woakes is a much bigger nightmare than Stokes, records say that much clearly. At least Stokes isn't that big a threat with the ball, and we have Ashwin to limit him to low scores, statistically modern day Atherton-McGrath 'rivalry'....no counter when it comes to Woakes.

OP, I don't think it will be a repeat of 2014. I expect the 3 defeats this time to be much worse than then. Our batting lineup back then was frayed, but still better than now. and yes, our bowling is better, but so is that of eng compared to then. and last, and perhaps most importantly, root is pwning like he never did before.
