AuxiliA Posted September 6, 2021 Posted September 6, 2021 Forget about SENA, for 14 years we had just 1 away test victory. Yes, one away test victory in 14 *ing years!! That too in pre '96 SL. Didn't even win in Zimbabwe. Norman and express bowling 2
jalebi_bhai Posted September 6, 2021 Posted September 6, 2021 It's a combo of us getting better overall and some of the traditional powerhouses getter weaker in the batting departments especially over the last 5 years or so. No disrespect to our boys and their achievements on this tour, but this England batting line up is not fit enough to even lace the boots of the 2011 England batting line up. neel roy and G_B_ 1 1
G_B_ Posted September 6, 2021 Posted September 6, 2021 I think we finally have the bowlers to compete overseas.

Frustrated Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 Chokli may never win any icc tournament for us, but he has created an environment in which pace bowlers in tests are flourishing. And it is reflecting in our SENA wins. (Not taking any credit away from bowling coach) Whereas Dhoni was mostly content with trundlers operating at 120 speed. Yes, he won us crucial icc tournaments but his test captaincy was abysmal. adi B and Adamant 2
DeepSpace Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 (edited) This team has done which no other previous teams have done before despite having ATGs in the team like SRT, Dravid, Laxman, Kumble, etc. Winning requires mindset as much as talent. Edited September 7, 2021 by DeepSpace

England batting was same then too.

Nope it requires fast bowling. We havent lost a SINGLE match where we scored 300 in first innings since 2015. This team still rarely scores 300. That team used to score 300 overseas for fun, with this bowling they wohld rule Its telling all ATG you listed are batsmen or spinners, not a single fast bowler Frustrated 1
rollingstoned Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 we should cherish this as Indian fans as long as it lasts, saying we need to prepare green pitches and develop a fast bowling culture - padosis scoffing about a lack of red meat in diet - was a cliched take whenever we couldn't win away from home. of course it didn't happen overnight, we are reaping what was sowed almost 2 decades back from ganguly's time.

Mindset is absolutely important. You can have team brimming with talent but do not win tough games. See that in American sports all the time.

So bowlers averaging 32 is similar to a bowler averaging 22? Yeah and rahane is almost like bradman. Every single fast bowler we have today is averaging below 28 and way below that if you take last 2-3 years. Even bhuvi averages 27. All rounder Thakur averages 22 with ball. Our spinners average below 25 Those days not a single fast bowlers averaged below 30 and even our spinners like kumble averaged almost 30. Also even bumrah couldn't win a single test without support from shami or Yadav or siraj I.will repeat the point you ignored..since 2015, India hasnt lost a SINGLE test where we socred 300 batting first, that batting attack used to acore 300 for fun overseas. They would have won way more matches Edited September 7, 2021 by New guy

Which is why we won a test in Zim, WI and Eng within 18 months in 2001-02 after going an entire decade without winning an away test. Even after Srinath's retirement, we won a test in Australia, went onto win a series in Zimbabwe (considerably weaker side than 2001 though) and WI (2006), drew in SA (2006-07), ultimately winning series in England (2007) and NZ (2009) and coming so very close to winning in Aus but for Bucknor (2007-08). Was due to plenty of very good seamers (Zaheer, Nehra, Sreesanth, Irfan, Munaf, Balaji, RP, Agarkar, a young Ishant - they all played their part) Our away record in the 2000s was 19 wins and 19 losses, only slightly behind SA in away tests in that cycle. Imagine going from 0 away wins in the 1990s to 19 away test wins (including vs WI and BD). We in fact regressed in the next decade of 2010s with 19 wins and 25 losses. In Aus in 2018-19 and 2020-21 and now in England, we are only seeing a trend reversal.

To say that self belief, determination, proper leadership and proper mindset does not count is foolish. Sure, without talent no one of those attributes will matter. A stupid with determination does not get anywhere. But there are plenty of examples in just life to indicate talent alone does guarantee success.

Nz 2008 last test when dhoni for dumb reason gave nz 600 to chase when 425 would have been enough) 3. Sydney 2018 4. Trentbridge 2021.
