Indian batsmen had been facing 130 kmph deliveries in IPL...facing Shaheen Afridi is different cup of tea - Hayden

Pakistan ended its World Cup jinx against India in World Cup history as Babar Azam and his men recently defeated Virat Kohli & Co. by 10 wickets to make a huge statement in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021. Shaheen Afridi's dismissals of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul early in the innings put the Men in Green in the driver's seat as India could not recover from the early losses.

Legendary  Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden, who was appointed as Pakistan's batting consultant for T20 World Cup, was full of praise for Afridi and highlighted how Indian pacers were taken aback by him as they were facing deliveries at 130 kmph in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 - the second phase of which was hosted in UAE.

"They (the Indian batters) had been facing 130km/h deliveries for the last month during the IPL. It's a different cup of tea when you are facing someone running and bowling at Shaheen Shah Afridi's pace," Hayden told Fox Cricket after Pakistan's 10-wicket win.

Afridi trapped Rohit for a first-ball duck while he clean bowled KL Rahul with a quick inswinger off the first ball of his next over. Hayden lauded the two deliveries and said those were the two best balls he has seen in the last five weeks.

“They were the best two balls that I've seen in five weeks. A fast in-swinging yorker and the courage that it takes to bowl that delivery against Rohit Sharma with the new ball is admirable,” Hayden added. With openers back in the hut with just six runs on board, India managed to reach a low total of 151 at the end of 20 overs.

Hayden probably saw a lot of Undercutter Harshal & Sakariya in IPL.

It's tough to replicate what Shaheen does.. As he is tall & quick left armer.

Indian bats can face 150+ kph Right arm fast bowlers with no issues.  There is no secret that we have a dearth good left arm fast bowlers in the country.

even khaleel ahmed bowled faster than shaheen, don’t know what’s he talking about ?

Rohit had Boult Milne Bunrah to practice & every other team

has a 145+ Bowler in IPL

KOLKATA : Fergusen / Mavi / Krishna

Punjab : Meredith / Shami

Rajasthan : Archer / Tyagi / Morris & More

Hyderabad : Malik/ Khaleel

Blore : Siraj / Saini

Delhi : Rabada / Northe / Avesh

Chennai : Hazlewood / Ngidi / Asif

Rahul just wasn’t expecting movement like that, he never had trouble with pace, it’s unexpected movement which only happened for those 2 overs which got them on the back foot. Hayden should be given a fitting reply by Indians..

Problem is if Indian commies won't hype up Indian pacers then obviously foreign commies won't talk much about them as well.  Same goes for BCCI as well

Guys like Kartik Sunny G go gaga over Harshal Patel's The sakariya Unadkat & others that guys like Prasidh Mavi Avesh Tyagi are ignored.

No country in the world would drop a in form guy like Siraj out of WT20 squad.  But our mentality suits Trundlers.

Only Harsha Bhogle hyped up Umran Malik out of these experts...  Tells us a lot about Where actually we are wrong.

Am disappointed too they dint take along Siraj, larger problem is with mindset & getting too comfortable with past players with past reputations & not current form.

It was pretty evident that bhuvi pandya were struggling , they got that quite wrong & even though siraj / chahal played under kohli , they still did not make a case to bring them in when the had the time, shows there are certain commitments made which are made at the cost of games or a larger conspiracy cooking beneath, whatever the case maybe , India is on the receiving end..

Bold management / Captains would have made a case to take risks & not play safe, this selection clearly shows they are going by past experience & want to play safe.. kohli is retiring & shastri is moving away from coaching, would not be nice to take risks & lose & end the careers badly..

The fact that Siraj who is now 27 is our next Complete fast bowler after Bumrah still can't find a spot in our squad tells a lot.  He has every aspect covered in his bowling & I don't know how is he still out of this.

We deserve this I Think.

Indian Team Management philosophy dictates that friends first over quality and ability. Makes sense.

So Nortje, Rabada, Umran Malik, Bumrah, Shami, Cummins, Starc etc are all 130 KPH and only Shaheen is Phaast?

These guys earn money from IPL all year and then criticize it outside

Disappointing from Hayden

Starc hasn't played IPL in years, and Cummins didn't play second phase. Umran was only introduced late for a few games. Bumrah has declined, no longer much of a threat. Granted Pakistan has only a few good pacers anyway lile Rauf and Afridi. But the point is even if India has a good quality of pacers, they don't play them ahead of their trundlers. Guys like Bhuvi, Sakariya, Unadkat, Sandeep Sharma etc get favoured over Umran, Tyagi, etc. Only KKR has done well in honing it's fast bowlers.

All this build up is great , that just means that one screw up and they are gone … it’s always better to lose a game in league stage to get that losing feeling out of the way .. not saying india will qualify just Paaki’s better watch out .. all this chest pumping is never good ..

Very surprising to hear this from Haydos. This man made us all feel proud when he went to Aus and explained how Indian people are as a country during the 2nd wave of pandemic.

I get it that he is the coach, but never seen him talk down IPL before. I guess with the IPL spotlight done for now, even his mask is coming off.

Shane Watson said something similar that the 3rd grade league in Pak has better bowling resources than IPL. These guys seem to come to IPL for all the dance and music and then go back to spew venom at the next opportunity.

Its not that he is completely wrong, if ipl tm or coaches still keep opening with Sakariya , Undakat, bhoovi, Sandeep Sharma and many others in other team. It's bound to happen. On these same pitches few days back in Ipl we were keep serving these buffet bowler and thought we are going to win wc. Trundlers are not good for anywhere, even if ball swings these trundlers are good for initial few overs. Mavi and Nagarkotti who bowled faster than shaheen are no where to be seen now, BCCI doesn't have any plan to bring back and even though you somehow get a good lightining quick his place is not gauranteed in front of these afore mentioned trundler. I am surprised that inspite of 13 years of IPL we still have these trundlers opening bowling in each ipl team.

Hayden's history as far IPL gigs are concerned. Will realise it soon.

Anyone who agrees to work for PCB despite being fully aware of the consequences should be a person non-grata for BCCI and the Indian broadcasters. No point in being lenient, need absolute ruthlessness.
