Lack of talent.

Phase lag selection policy. The MI players were in great form in last IPL. How ever in this IPL, MI having same players didn’t qualified. So only IDIOTS will select team based on past performances in such a fast pace format like T20.

Im pretty sure Pak team must’ve selected players who’ve done well in THIS years PSL.

Also when you keep giving captaincy to a player who’s not won’t a single T20/ IPL trophy, you can’t expect anything better.

Hands on heart, don’t you think this years IPL top performers should’ve played in this WC and would’ve Performed better?

There’s a marked change in team performance after M$D was unnecessarily brought in as Mentor… Too many cooks…. This Cook actually believes in “slow cooking”.

IPL, pandemic and bubble has made players lose focus, motivation. Look at their faces and bodies… It appears they can’t wait to go home and take a break.

Yes but team had to be selected much before ipl ended. Harshal avesh ruturaj venky iyer were all in middle of ipl. So india DID take these players to net as well as umran. You cannot suddenly willy nilly drop 5 players from 15 and take 5 from nets forget reserves. So selector hands were tied.

Lack of talent? The year started with a young fearless team beating Aussies in Australia. You suddenly don't become talentless. The rot is at the top. Caotain and coach felt they have achieved everything they could as leaders. That was the biggest mistake.

A disinterested captain, that too an incompetent one, was at some stage going to take the team down. The practice matches gave a false sense of belief because other teams took it as practice.

When have our young players done well under the captain incompetent? Pant Ishan SKY Varun even Shardul are all new as well, the captain just cannot get them to perform. Has to be something rotten in that dressing room. The body language gave it all. All these guys were carrying dressing room baggages and got bogged down by fear of failure, not because they donnot have the talent.

All Of them Were gun against england in bilateral t20 series in india. The fear of failing has crept in because its an icc tournament. No second chances.

And the reason is an incompetent captain's incompetence gets magnified to 10X in such tournaments.

Should have added that in my earlier post that the context was getting the youngsters' to perform in ICC tournaments not bilaterals.

I don't think it is talent but it is big match temperament issue in must win games in ICC tournaments.

The current T20 team will be revamped after 2022 T20 World Cup.

Rohit will be given captaincy for 2022 T20 World Cup and 2023 World Cup, after this he will retire.

Team Post 2022 T20 World Cup:

Rituraj Gaikwad

Devdutt Padikal

KL Rahul (C)

S Iyer

R Pant (wk)

V Iyer (use as a floater)

Bowling not sure apart from Bumrah.

Pant, Rahul, Rohit, Hardik, Kishan and Jaddu .. all hit big 6s regularly.

In these 2 games, they have not batted with free minds and have looked circumspect.

Think about this response of mine for a second.

Just four 6s were hit by these batsmen in two games.

It explains why India posted pathetic 1st innings totals.

Bad performances but India do not have a good T20 team have not done so for years.

Lack of power hitters (cannot have Virat, Rohit and KL in the same XI).

Lack of penetration in the bowling attack.

Incredible Siraj was not selected.

Think a leg-spinner is needed, Bishnoi should be given a go.

Avesh Khan perhaps deserves a go.

Shami is not a T20 bowler and gets hit at the death.

Bhuvi is just a run-saving option at international level.

Ideal T20 XI for any country is as follows IMO: Batter 1 (consolidator), Batter 2 (140+ SR), Batter 3 (floater - double up as consolidator/aggressor), Batter 4 (play spin well and score at good SR), Batter 5 (wk) [aggressive - score at 140+ SR), All-rounder 1 (score at 150+ SR and bowl pace), All-rounder 2 (score at 150+ SR and bowl spin), All-rounder 3 (score at 150+ SR and bowl pace/spin), Bowler 1 (wrist-spin or attacking mystery spin), Bowler 2 (out-and-out pacer  + PP specialist), and Bowler 3 (out-and-out pacer + death over specialist)

One of top 5 must bowl to some extent. One of Bowlers 1-3 (positions 9-11) must be capable of tonking some runs, like rashid khan or southee. this will lead to 7 bowling options + batting till 9.

We need to start grooming players for these positions.

There is enough muscle power, apart from Loli all others are capable of hitting big & clearing any boundary. It was a case of vicious cocktail timid batting, batting first after losing toss and taking pressure of big occasion

Sab to maarte huye out huye. Koi defence karte huye out nahi hua. Lage nahi kisi se bhi try to bht kiye.

Every body knows kohli is not captan material.IPL says all but it is the fault of bcci they continued with him. After 2019 they could have removed him from white ball captaincy .Our culture and brands will not allow to take bold decisions. There is lot of talent but if captan is not good it will be a waste

Inspite of playing 14 editions of IPL we don't have England type high strike rate middle order players. Every potential player is an opener who takes advantage of powerboat against mediocre bowlers in  IPL. We don't have many brute force power hitters either. Only Samad looked a potential candidate.

Great. This is the best template. Question is who and all are these 11 players? Who can you name at the moment in domestic cricket, that can fill these roles?

I will take a shot at it, but a lot of unknowns.

Consolidator: Gill/Gaikwad

Dasher: Shaw/Mayank/Venky Iyer [both can score at 140+ SR; V. Iyer can bowl too]

Consolidator/Dasher: KLR/S. Iyer/V. Iyer [KLR has the game, but is mentally suspect]

Spin specialist/part-time bowler: SKY  [needs to start doing more bowling IMO to become 7th bowler]

Keeper: Pant/ishan [both have clear limitations, but are young and can work on them]

All-rounder spin with 150+ SR: if Samad works on both batting and bowling, he could take over at 6

All-rounder pace with 150+ SR: Thakur, with Nalkande as potential back-up; Pandu before injury was a potential candidate

All-rounder spin/pace with 150+ SR: no one on horizon. Sundar can score at 120 SR. might be best bet for now

Wrist spinner/slogger, who can tonk a bit: no one on horizon for batting skills. maybe Rahul chahar, if he fixes bowling and works on slogging.

Pacer with 140+ and PP specialist: Siraj, with Umran Malik groomed as backup

Pacer with 140+ and death specialist: Bumrah

if all issues are properly handled, we would have batting till 9 and 7 bowling options. much of the team is similar to what others have written such as @express bowling

Abishek Sharma can also be groomed for the 150+ SR. When he first started, Hooda would've been a good candidate, but he hasn't done anything of note since he started. There is also Gaikwad and Venky Iyer for Opener roles.
