SA beats Eng,Wi,Sl and Bang and still get knocked out

India beats Afghan and Scotland and need to beat Namibia to have a shot to qualify if things go their way

Super 10s/ 12s are the best format for short competitions.

SL and BD like Scotland and Namibia are qualifiers, their Test status doesn't mean much in this context.

SL beat WI and finish 4th, gives them a direct entry to next T20 WC in Australia while WI and BD will have to go through the league phase.

Scotland should had been in other group. Bangladesh played so stupidly that they landed in tougher  group.

Best format is super 12, followed by super 6, then SF and final. Top 3 teams in Super 12 each group qualify for Super 6, and top 4 of that qualify for knockouts.

That will mean 15 extra matches and will totally kill the charm of a quick and short T20 WC.

BD might have sucked and even lost to Scotland but they are much better than associate teams at least in these conditons.

SL actually did very well. They were in with a shot in every game and they are building an exciting team.

Whatever the reason it’s easy to see that when you make something lopsided it brings down the quality.

I am not bitter about Indias performance. This has been a poor WT20 quality wise. 2014,2010 were poor too.

When you make groups to ensure you milk the most money (jnd drafted with Pak and in easier group), this is bound to happen.

Ind surprised us all by underperforming making it worse. :((

The mistake they made was putting NZ also in the same group lol India never lost to Pakistan. They just assumed it will continue which will make NZ loss inconsequential. But Panauti broke the curse on behalf of Pakistan.

It has more to do with group division. There is only one minnow-Bangladesh in other group, even that is test playing nation.. While we had Afghanistan,Scotland,Nambia. Pakistan is other mini-minnow team. One of the associate team should have been other group with SA/Australia in Our group.

That's why last ODI world cup was quality.  Deserving teams got into Semis...  4th team was NZ who got lucky but one's always like that.

Round Robin format is the best format.  Group baazi is non sensical...  It's not like 20-25 team are participating.

Top 3 - Eng/Aus/SA ended 1/1 vs other 2.

Top3 - NZ and Ind both laid eggs against Pak - that is what causes the scenario you mention if Afg beats NZ (very unlikely). If NZ goes thru with win... they compare favourably with Aus/SA in the other group.

The format is okay - Eng/Aus/SA came to play. India did not. If NZ wins tomorrow (I think they will) then they and Pak came to play too.

IPL is the best format. Each team playing each other twice. The best 2 teams get a 2nd chance. The 3rd and 4th get eliminated to see that any flukes are taken care of and another shot to prove there was no fluke.

Personally they should add a best of 3 final as well.

Obviously not feasible in a wc but wc is always a lottery unless the gulf between a team and its competition is way to large like Wi and Aus great teams.

good point and even though you countered my OP I  agree with you.

Bangladesh and WI’s  atrocious performance and SL despite showing good signs for the future, didn’t have too many things go their way which kind of balances it out.

I still don’t think this format is fair. You can’t eliminate 8 teams in one round in a group format. It becomes like squid game instead of a tournament.

Grouping is of course wrong. WI and SL in this format on a given day can beat any of Ind/Pak/NZ. Replace one of Scot/Nam with one of WI or SL and the groups are fairer. On that I completely agree.

T20 itself is a lottery game. So i don't think they will change anything.  On a given day one run out, one brilliant catch, one big over can completely change the game. This is the nature of the format.  There is one hidden factor we ignore. Pitches. As it turns out this has been a low scoring world cup. It puts all teams on equal. Literally anyone can beat anyone. On true wickets, you can predict England, India, Windies dominating. But on slow/low wickets everybody is in play.

This,

T20 is a rotten format.

Anyone can have a good day and win the game for his team.

This is the problem with cricket.

Its most entertaining format is the least reputable one.
