Texan Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 Quote My aim was to grow world class players. If you ask me this team has over-achieved," a quintessential chest-thumping Shastri said during the press conference after India had played its last match in the T20 "Fitness, standard of fielding and the hunger in this bunch of players make them not only a great Indian team but a great team in the history of the game. An ICC trophy is missing but they will get the chance in 12 months," he emphatically stated while adding: "This is a very emotional day for me. I am glad as I leave, I have left two missing parts out of ten from the time I took over." Ravi Shastri might have had a more successful career if he was in marketing rather than in cricket. He was one of the most average cricketers to have got such an extended run in the Indian team, screwed us royally in the 1992 World Cup with his slow batting and now he is blowing his own trumpet about his coaching. diga Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 For the amount of resources BCCI had, we underachieved with zero ICC trophies in the last 7 years and having backup test class batsmen & spinners ps: for the amount of talent Ravi Shastri had, he overachieved in his playing career to starting as a no-11 batsman /bowler to opening batsman.. maybe he is so full of himself that he confused his achievements vs the team achievements.
New guy Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 He is saying that he had even less expectations from this indian team than ICFers did

R!TTER Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 Overachieved? Wasn't this *ing guy claiming India to be the best (overseas) side visiting Oz or some BS like that, undermining previous India sides
jf1gp_1 Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 In test cricket - Yes In ODIs I believe we have done reasonably well. Yes WC win would have made it perfect but ill still take it. T20 - No.
ShoonyaSifar Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 The guy is talking as if we were down in the dumps when he took over in 2017. Someone should remind him we were the Test no. 1 team in July 2017 with 123 points (currently at 119 points). Aus and England wins have been absolutely great but that should have been natural expectation. In LOIs, we were in the finals of the ICC CT before Shastri took over, got knocked out in WC semis and now in league stage in T20 WCs. We were on 119 ranking points back then, now we are at 113 ranking points. Going by all this talk of how great he's been, I am absolutely convinced this coaching group has had limited role in our Aus series win. It was largely due to Rahane and the group of senior players (Rohit, Pujara and Ashwin) coming together. But the coaching group shamelessly took all the credit and buttered Kohli as well. raki05, nevada, sorak and 2 others 2 2 1
Mariyam Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 These statements are pointless when you don't highlight what exactly is your road map and what you wish to achieve. express bowling 1

AuxiliA and nevada 2
Nikola Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 But we were as good as West indies of 80s & Australia of early 2000s. So if we would have achieved as per our ability we would have surpassed them? nevada 1

Sgattick10 Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 What an egomaniac. Except for Aus and Eng Test series, he has nothing else to show beetle 1
nevada Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 The only team that has over achieved is the coaching cartel. They broke and created new records - of number of beer kegs downed in a single session.

Fair enough but individually for me, a guy who doesn't even have the basic courtesy to say not winning ICC trophies was disappointing and instead harps on bilateral wins is too much of a megalomaniac.
NameGoesHere Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 I can only say to Shastri and his cronies the classic lines said by Oliver Cromwell to the English Parliament: “You have sat too long here for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!”
Rantzz Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 He sounded drunk throughout his press conference. Stuttering over words. Repeating same stuff good riddance
