Can Venkatesh Iyer/Harshal Patel/Deepak Chahar give Hardik Pandy a run for money(in T20I cricket)

Venkatesh Iyer seems to bat well in the two innings we have seen. Harshal does not seem that bad either.

Harshal  also looks a good bowler.

Can either of them or both of them give a run for Hardik Pandya for a spot in India's T20I team.

Harshal and D Chahar won't be in consideration for anything ahead of no.7 position. Actually no.7 is the last to be in consideration.

 

Hardik is competing for no.6 but if he shows improvement with bat and learn to finish games under pressure and not just be a weak bowling basher then he can bat at 5 too, allowing V Iyer to bat at 6 and that will give us seven bowling options.

Both Harshal and Chahar are #8 calibre batsmen.  Pandya is a #5 or 6 calibre batsman.  That is the difference.  Even Jadeja cannot perform higher than #8 or 7 at best.

 

Iyer is promising but not in Pandya's class as  bowler - at least from what I have seen, more of Vijay Shankar type part-time turn your arm over stuff.  

 

But I like Iyer a lot, and think his ceiling could be good.  Just a feeling you get about certain players.

see the key thing which i have noticed is that after 2013 to be precise 2015 onwards we relied on specialist bowlers too much yuvi had regressed by 12 and we carried him till ct 17,we are struggling to find good part time bowlers ,jadhav was one but he regressed way badly

You tend to look over larger sample sets and actual capabilities of the player assuming 'normal' fitness levels when evaluating players.  

 

I mean if you want to talk current snapshot, then that's a different type of discussion.  To give a "run for money" in India T20 XI, we are talking about longer term are we not?

8 overs between these 3 is not a bad idea.  Siraj although an improved T20 bowler is still not a fully developed T20 bowler. Ideally we need a tall fast bowler. Not skiddy bowlers. Prasidh is 6'2". If he can improve his yorkers, he can be handy. But his skill level is still average. Guys like Tyagi should also be in the reckoning.

We need batting allrounders, not bowling allrounders, and that's why Hardik is so important to the team. Hope Venky Iyer also keeps improving.

This is the best team I can think of for 2022 T20WC. 6 bowling options with batting all the way down without compromising on bowling quality.

if Hardik is in his bowling rhythm then the long and short answer is NO.

 

harshal/chahar/ venky are kinda similiar standard all rounders and if hardik is bwling well , hardik is ahead of all of them by a big margin. But will hardik come back into his bowling rhythm, i feel no as he has some back issues and if my understanding is correct , this issue will mar his career. actually he should not have played the world cup.

In T20s, a batting line up should be flexible. Guys like SDP should go in once the 4th-5th-6th bowlers including spinners are on to try to tear them apart. If they get out, you still have other batsmen to play till 20th over. 

 

What we do is try to bat till 15 overs, milking the easier bowlers, then leave the last few overs to big hitters who would be going after death over specialists bowling yorkers on many occasions

Yes Tyagi can be a good fast bowler. We need just 2 good fast bowler and one good spinner Ashwin. Remaining position can be filled with Chahar, Patel, Iyer and Thakur they all can bat and bowl handy overs. It will take our batting bto another level as they all can bat in t20s. Even a quickfire 15-20 by each of them would be good enough to set competitive total. Harshal Patel looks to be a hard working cricketer much better than phony alrounder who is free loading since past 5 years.
