Jay Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Kyle was ordinary until he played in kanpur. Now he is extraordinary. Axar needs to show he can perform in sena. I definitely see him having success in australia and s.africa. He did well on A tours. I see him struggle in England and n.z due to seaming green wickets. Axar can become 'extraordinary' soon. Or he remains just extra ordinary as zen would say.
zen Posted November 29, 2021 Author Posted November 29, 2021 Just now, sandeep said: There's another on this forum who prides himself on his acumen, and repeatedly kept asking how the f did Jaddu become a top test bowler while being "ordinary". "Special" fans of a certain type are predisposed to liking "special" type of players, and finding those that don't fit pre-conceived notions, as 'ordinary'. Axar Patel made it to the Indian test XI out of a competing field of dozens of spinners. If he was "ordinary", guys like Jayant Yadav, Shahbaz Nadeem, or a dozen others would be here in his place. Is he the finished product yet that say, a Jadeja is? No he isn't. But then its silly to expect a player with a handful of tests under his belt to be a natural phenom and "extra" ordinary. Spinners develop their repetoire over years and years of competition. Axar is on that journey. Warne at a similar 'age' - in chronology or test matches, was far more 'ordinary' than Axar is. But OP would never say that about a leggie with half as good a statistical record. Its ghar ki murgi daal barabar syndrome. Its just another yawn inducing ordinary opinion of a cricket fan couched in verbiage of self-styled deep 'analysis'. The problem with pomposity is this - it is a strongly charged electromagnet for derision. Nadeem was poor. Yadav, can't comment as he has not played tests recently sandeep 1

Shane Warne never tires of saying this "If it seams, it can spin". Guys like Jadeja and Axar can find ways to be effective on tracks because they bowl at a quickish pace - if it grips enough to seam, they can get some purchase and deviation. They also have a role to play in managing the bowling workload and keeping the frontline pacers rested and ready to keep attacking, while managing the bowling over-rate along with the scoring rate. Problem for this type of bowler is that they need the other components of the team to deliver to really be effective. If a Jaddu/Axar is given a team score of 400 on the board, and the 3 pacers take early wickets/ maintain tight pressure on the batsmen, then the spinners can be effective. See for example how Moeen Ali harassed us in England tours gone by. But if the rest of the bowling attack leaks and is already under pressure, it puts the finger spinner in a bad spot to begin with. Given the beautiful strength of the Indian test pace bowling unit, if that stays the course - guys like Jaddu/Axar and even Ashwin (if fully fit) will improve their ANUS (I refuse to say 'sena') records tremendously. Jadeja already has, to some degree, in recent years. Lord 1

Bigg Brother Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Akshar isn't big turner of ball and he himself admits that and knows that, but his accuracy is second to none. Limited bowler but does the work. The same set of people would have hailed gora player as GOAT AR had he scored 30 odd and picked up 5 wickets. nevada and raki05 2

putrevus Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 (edited) Axar is 1000 times better than Pandya ever was in his career. Axar has exceeeded expectation in all aspects of the game. Some geniuses think that they are Bill James of Cricket . To even understand and utilize sabermetrics in cricket you need to have proper understanding of the game along with some understanding of history of the game. Edited November 29, 2021 by putrevus

Made sure he did not suck up balls to compensate for loss of overs due to weather. Basically he is responsible for Mayank getting to play so many deliveries & scoring big. We need such dynamic players who can transform from Dracula to Duckula depending on the game. express bowling, Frustrated and raki05 3
ash Posted December 4, 2021 Posted December 4, 2021 Lol. Did you even see the highlights of the first match. It was by no means a rank Turner and all our spinners bowled beautifully. Ajaz took 10 wickets because the supporting bowlers were ****. If you give Axar 50 overs in this pitch without asking Ashwin to bowl he would also take 10.
